Generally this book does what any good ethics book should do; it presents sticky situations in a way that may challenge the way one may have always thought about that situation. It forces one to think in such a way as to defend one's stance on an issue. I take exception with the article under the Human Sexuality heading titled "Like the Wideness of the Sea" by Lewis B. Smedes. The information disclosed regarding this article is, " In this selection Smedes offers a Christian response to homosexuality. He points out that the church once spurned people who were divorced and remarried but now embraces them and ministers to them. He encourages the church to respond similarly to those who are in committed homosexual relationships." Throughout the article Smedes uses flawed logic to justify why the church should accept the sin of homosexuality if the participants are in a committed, monogomous relationship. This makes for an excellent discussion with your child if you are aware of what s/he is reading. However, if your child is doing this on their own, and they are not discerning, this could lead to error. While I would reccomend this book, I do it with the advice to read it and discuss it WITH you child...to be forwarned is to be forarmed.
