Andie5 Stars Out Of 5consistently the bestSeptember 9, 2016AndieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I hesitated for years to purchase any of the Apologia science curriculums. I did not want to mix religion with education, especially in the sciences. Then I started to see online reviews about how thorough these sciences courses are, even woth their healthy dose of religion. Our first purchase was the biology curriculum. She used it as an 8th grader and scored very well on the SAT II test attue end of the year. We have since purchased regular Chemistry, Exploring Chemistry and Physics, and Advanced Biology. The curriculum continues to evolve and improve.
S5 Stars Out Of 5Love it!June 28, 2016SQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a well written, easy to follow science book with lots of great experiments for the hands-on learner. It's perfect for middle school.
Michelle3 Stars Out Of 5I love apologia, but a small caution with this book.January 15, 2016MichelleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 2I ended up quitting this book halfway through the year. I am disappointed because it was super expensive to buy the textbook and three journals for my kids. I was using this for 2nd, 4th and 6th. I have loved all the apologia books so far and I was excited for this one. In my opinion, it is extremely difficult to understand for elementary aged kids. If your kids are amazing writers and spellers and readers then go for it, but I found that the only one who understood anything was my sixth grader. It was very very thorough, which is great, but not when it takes a long time to read and explain and then they are expected to write about it and they can't spell 90% of it and you have to sit there are spell osteoblasts, pyloric sphincter, ileocecal sphincter, jejunum, periosteum. This is suppose to be a curriculum the whole family can do so you can target different grades, I don't think you can do that with this textbook. I am just being honest as a home school mama. Just my opinion, it was just over their heads, and frankly a lot of it was hard for me to grasp as well.
Gator89Gainesville, FLAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Science Text for Middle School tooMay 15, 2015Gator89Gainesville, FLAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This was our first year using Apologia science. We ordered the Human Anatomy and Physiology text book and Notebooking Journal. I also ordered the Human Anatomy and Physiology Kit for experiments. My seventh grade daughter loved this science curriculum and I did too! Each day we looked forward to science. She especially enjoyed the experiments in "Try This". I highly recommend this book for homeschoolers looking for a way to explore anatomy and physiology in a "hands on" way that engages the learner without being too technical or difficult. My only negative comment is that there were no written tests included. However, the notebooking journal is a keepsake and reminder of all my daughter learned in this course.
Trinity5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent!!!November 11, 2014TrinityThis is our first time using this Apologia series and we love it! This is well written curriculum. We have the journal (my two children share and copy pages) that makes it so much easier and fun to go along with the book. I think if we didn't have the journal it would be hard to do all the projects...it's a must!!!
Q: Does the Apologia Human Anatomy & Physiology textbook come with quizzes or tests?
No. The Notebooking Journal (WW337016) includes review questions that can be used for assessment purposes, but there are no tests for the Apologia Elementary series.
Q: How does this cover sexual anatomy? Sexual parts?
No, this book does not cover the reproductive system or parts. It does, however, cover genetic development after conception.
Q: Is this designed to use for an entire school year, or one semester, etc? Thanks!
This is designed as a one year curriculum but, depending on the abilities of the student, it could be completed in less time.
