Chemistry can be hard to understand for parents and teen alike! Bring an experienced teacher into your home to supplement your course with this instructional DVD-ROM. Apologia Academy instructor Rusty Hughes will win your teen over with explanations, analogies, and stories he's collected over his sixteen-year career as a high school chemistry teacher. With more than thirty hours of instruction, this DVD also contains video presentations of every experiment from the Exploring Creation with Chemistry textbook so students will know what their results should look like before performing the experiment themselves.
Viewing will require Windows Media Player for PCs and Flip4Mac for Macs.
You must have a DVD drive on your computer and programs capable of playing .wmv files and .pdf files. Your computer must have a screen resolution of at least 1280x1024. This is a DVD-ROM, and will only play on a computer, NOT a standard DVD-player.
Textbook, Solutions Manual, and lab supplies are not included.

JodyHarleton, TXAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This dvd was the solution to our problemApril 30, 2013JodyHarleton, TXAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My son came to a point in the course that he could not figure out on his own, so we decided to try the dvd. The video is power point except for the experiments, so it isn't an "exciting" dvd, but it has helped a great deal. There are more examples of problems than the text has - done step by step. My son says that seeing things explained with more detail helps him understand better than just reading about it. We plan to buy the instructional dvd for physics for next school year.
TracyAAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Very disappointedSeptember 7, 2012TracyAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I was very disappointed in this product. My understanding was that it was full lectures for each module when, in fact, it is only partial 'lectures' and experiments.
I also had difficulty playing the dvd. When I played it in a format that allowed me to actually pause it, it was broken up into 2-3 minute segments. This made for a very choppy, disorganized 'lecture' that was very difficult for me (as an adult) to follow, much less for my child/student.
Since I am unable to return the dvd for a refund (since I had to open it to discover these issues), I am forced to keep it.
Rather than use the dvd, I have had to sign up for a live online class that will actually benefit my daughter. So now I am out twice the money.
Homeschooling x 4Stockbridge, GAAge: 35-44Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Different format than previous coursesJuly 19, 2012Homeschooling x 4Stockbridge, GAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1We have the Physical Science and Biology Instructional Videos and were very disappointed that the Chemistry course is in a completely different format.
The previous videos are broken down into just (2) Interactive Video Lectures per module. We watched one each week. They came with a suggested reading schedule to go along with lectures and example Lab Reports.
The Chemistry video is broken into dry Power Point presentations that cover each section in the book. When one section is talked about, it stops, and then you have to click to play the next section. There are numerous sections in each book. My kids miss Mr. R's laugh.
The only thing we do like is that it does have the experiments for viewing. This is very helpful for those who don't do the labs, but want to see the experiments done.

Q: Apologia Chemistry Instructional DVD - Does this have tests and answers for each module like the Apologia Marine Biology does?
This is an instructional DVD-Rom which contains lectures, notes and experiments. It is not the full-course CD-Rom (CBD stock number WW236201), which contains the full content of the student book, plus tests and answers.
Q: What is the difference between this new instructional DVD and the 2010 DVD for apologia Chemistry? Is one more thorough than the other?
This item is an instructional DVD produced by Apologia. It contains module notes and video clips with module introductions, experiments, explanations of scientific concepts and more. Clips range from 1 minute to 40 minutes, averaging 2 to 5 minutes each.
CBD Stock number WW495215 is a class recording by Red Wagon Tutorials of an instructor doing an actual online course. The instructor is very thorough, giving numerous examples and interacting with the students from the original course. There are two classes for each module and each class is about 1.5 hours long.
