HannahMNAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Helpful but not really necessaryOctober 5, 2011HannahMNAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I saw similar comments for this product, and I have to agree that, while helpful for general guidelines on how to use the books, this teacher's guide only gives specific instructions (that aren't already in the workbook) for a few of the exercises in each section. It does give suggested activities to reinforce the learning, but not anything that you couldn't come up with yourself. Overall, it is a help, but one could muddle through the workbooks without the guide.
Hyper MomPhoenix, AZAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Not absolutely necessary.July 17, 2011Hyper MomPhoenix, AZAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2This was our first time using Explode the Code, so we purchased the guide along with the workbooks. Basically, it expands a bit on the directions of each page in the workbooks. (There is only one workbook page per letter that doesn't have specific directions...I'm sure you could make up a comparable activity without this guide.) It also has a couple of picture book suggestions to reinforce the lessons, but again, not anything that you couldn't come up with on your own. Overall, I don't think it's all that necessary, but then again it wasn't that expensive...no need to stress over it.
M oliver3 Stars Out Of 5December 7, 2009M oliverI got this because it was my first endeavor into homeschooling and I was afraid I might be lost without it. I very rarely use it except when my son says he wants me to read about the pictures. There are sections that you describe a picture in about 2 sentences then the child gets to point out the correct picture which my son then circles or colors. If I didn't have the teacher's book I wouldn't know what to do with these pages but I am sure I could figure something out.
Rabecka Brown3 Stars Out Of 5November 17, 2009Rabecka BrownI love the books with the lessons, but I was a little disapointed by the teacher guide. It doesn't offer any teaching suggestions that you can do with stuff around the house or games you can make up. You have to buy more merchandise from the company for all of the other suggestions. I thought it had more sales pitches than teaching suggestions.
Jessica5 Stars Out Of 5February 28, 2008JessicaThe Get Ready, Get Set, Go for the Code series is the perfect beginning phonics program for young ones. The pictures are a little silly (what 4 year old doesn't like silly) and the exercises are quick enough for short attention spans. Each letter is given about 8 pages of work and reviewed in following lessons. Although my son already knew the sounds of the letters and how to basically write them, these books have really fine tuned his knowledge, getting him ready for reading. Another plus is the price, which I don't think can be beat. It should be stated that the teacher's guide (just the one for the 3 workbooks) is a must for the listening exercises through out the books. I will be using this series for my other child and highly recommend them to any parent of a preschooler.
