In this Preaching the Word commentary, Exodus: Saved for God's Glory Philip Graham Ryken mines the majestic book of Exodus for knowledge of God's character and instruction for his followers. So much can be learned about God through the accounts of his deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, his many divine interventions for them, and his transformation of them into an independent nation.
At once theologically instructive and decidedly practical, Exodus: Saved for God's Glory opens up the text using an expository methodology that is accessible to all readers. Ryken highlights points of detail that are often missed by readers of Exodus, but does so in a decidedly practical and edifying manner. He skillfully relates how the Israelites' deliverance from slavery anticipated the salvation accomplished in Jesus Christ, proving that God remembers his covenant and always delivers on his promises. For those who preach, teach, and study God's Word, this book is more than just a commentary; it is a celebration of God's faithfulness.
Preaching the Word commentaries are written by pastors for pastors, as well as for all who teach or study God's word. With pastor R. Kent Hughes as the series editor, experienced pastors and teachers model expository preaching and practical application. This series is noted for its steadfast commitment to biblical authority, clear exposition of Scripture, and readability. It is widely accessible for seasoned and new pastors, as well as men and women hungering to read the Bible in a fresh way.

The Preaching the Word commentary series is one of my favorites. The focus upon explaining a text with preaching it as the goal makes the series resonate with the priorities of the pulpit. No academic aloofness here, but down-to-earth, preacher-to-preacher meat for God's people.
President, Covenant Theological Seminary
I'm delighted to endorse the philosophy behind the series edited by my friend Kent Hughes. Here sounds out the voice not of the scholar in the study but of the scholar in the pulpit. The authors are all able teachers who regularly expound God's living Word to His people. May this rich material give us 'patterns of preaching' that will not only feed the flock, but, by God's grace, change the church.

H. Wayne Sampson5 Stars Out Of 5February 15, 2010H. Wayne SampsonI own hundreds of commentaries and this is the best I have ever read. It is technical relative to the events of Exodus and their meaning, Jesus focused and conservative, yet it reads like a novel. It was so helpful to me that I E-mailed Dr. Ryken and asked him to write a commentary on Ezekiel and Isaiah.Five stars does not do it justice.
