Required reading for all who teach the scriptures
An excellent tool for learning to avoid an emotional interpretation of Scripture. Too often we hear preachers expound a text and wonder how they got there from here. Carson exposes the subtle, but common fallacies that plague these interpretations and forces the reader to re-evaluate the text within its own context and historical-cultural milieu to get at its true meaning.

Every professional teacher of God's Word should read this book. Slightly technical, it presumes a certain knowledge of New Testament Greek. While not comprehensive of every kind of fallacy, it is excellent food for thought and full of good examples and good variety of common mistakes made in Biblical interpretation. It will make you laugh, shudder and ask yourself some good questions about your own interpretive assumptions. You will think more carefully about God's Word as a result. Thank you Dr. Carson for this caution sign on the road to interpretation.

After more than twenty years pastoring a church and preaching from the Word one tends to think we know how to conduct our business. This book shatters this idea and taught me afresh how to look at the Biblical text and to read it as for the first time. Highly recommended.
