Publisher's Description

Beloved Author Lauraine Snelling Returns Again to Her Popular Red River Valley Setting

Trygve Knutson is devoted to his family and his community. With his job on the construction crew, he is helping to build a future for the North Dakota town of Blessing. Though he loves his home, he sometimes dreams of other horizons--especially since meeting Miriam Hastings.

Miriam is in Blessing to get practical training to become an accredited nurse. She's been promised a position in the Chicago women's hospital that will enable her to support her siblings and her ailing mother. Although eager to return to her family, Miriam is surprised to find how much she enjoys the small town of Blessing. And her growing attachment to Trygve soon has her questioning a future she always considered set in stone.

When a family emergency calls Miriam home sooner than planned, will she find a way to return? If not, will it mean losing Trygve--and her chance at love--for good?

A glimpse at what life was like in Blessing ND in 1905, where life was simple, and air was clean. People were very hard working, and it seemed that neighbors were there whenever there was a need. This is a predominately Norwegian community, and most have immigrated, and are helping others to come over, to where they can own land.

We have a young man, Trygve Knutson, who has decided he is tired of traveling and come what may he wants to stay in one place, and that is Blessing. I loved the interaction he has with his Ante and Uncle, and would love to be in that family.

Then we have a nursing student from Chicago who is being requested to go to Blessing to finish up her training. She is so torn, her father has died and her mother is very ill. She wants to be in two places at once, but her heart tells her that her family needs her. Her younger siblings were working, and helping bring in their meager earnings.

The town of Blessing is expanding so much that they are running out of housing. With the expansion, there are a lot of new people and nationalities that end up there. Was really surprised, and yet shouldnt have been, how some of the natives of the town didnt support anyone else to have a freedom of religion.

Will Miriam be able to come and take training? Will Trygve be able to leave the traveling job, when he is offered twice his salary to stay? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered beneath the covers of this great book.

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Great book if your a fan of the Red river Valley series!

    MY TAKE:

If you are a fan of Lauraine Snellings Red River Valley series this book is for you! I don't think this is Lauraines Best book. But it's still a really good book if you know the backstorys. I think Lauraine could've done a little better at making the book more about the supposed main characters. But if you look at it as Lauraine catching readers up on the Bjorklund family while introducing Tygrve (pronounced Trig-vee) and Miriam for the coming series it makes sense. When I read a new book in the series I usually have to skim through the past books to refresh my memory. (Although the family tree at the very first of this book was very helpful)! Last Lauraine wrote a new book about the Bjorklund family was in 2011 and she has four series based on the Bjorklunds! That's a lot of characters to keep up with! All in all I would recommend this book to fans of the Red River Valley series's because it could be majorly confusing for people who have not read previous series in this setting.but if you haven't read any of Lauraines previous books I definitely recommend you start with the Red River Valley series! The first historical romance book I ever read was Red River Of The North #1 An Untamed Land and now Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres.

    Previous series include:

#1 Red River Of The North

    #2 Return To Red River

    #3 Home To Blessing

    #4 Daughters Of Blessing

    #5 Song Of Blessing

This is possibly not the "best" stand alone novel, but if you have even read one or two about Blessing by Laurine Snelling and noticed the chart of families, I think you will still enjoy. I did!

If you are a fan of Lauraine Snelling and if you have enjoyed the story town of Blessing, North Dakota, you will certainly enjoy this book. No 1 in the "Song of Blessing" saga, Trygve Knutson is grown and working hard for the future of his community. Far Haaken, one of the main characters in the Red River Valley stories, is getting older and his wife is very concerned about some symptoms he is having. Both daughter and daughter-in-law are physicians, but although his wife would like one of them to check him over, there is thought that this would be strange and unacceptable to him. In Chicago, Ilinois, there is a young nurse in training who has been selected to go to Blessing to continue learning under the two women doctors before graduating. It is a struggle to leave her ill mother and other siblings that she has been helping to provide for. But, God is in control as He intervenes in making the plan work for her family. After Miriam arrives in North Dakota, she sees many new things for the first time in a small town. But her heart is still pulling her back to her mother in the city. Will she ever be able to trust God and see her future anywhere else beside Chicago? She gets on the train to return when she hears her mother may be dying, but will she ever come back? Someone is waiting to find out.

Well... I the cover is beautiful, but the rest of the book certainly does not live up to that same standard. In a word, boring. I guess there is a whole series about this particular group of people that I should have read beforehand if I wanted to know what was going on, but I really wasn't that interested. It was slow moving with a lot of talk and a lot of characters.

I don't mind names from other nationalities, but Trygve is difficult for an English only speaking person to read without at least a pronunciation guide. It bothered me to see it so often and have no idea how to say it.

If you are a die hard Lauraine Snelling fan you may enjoy this one but in general I'd say it's not worth the read. Pretty cover, though.

Good book but hard to follow if you haven't read the other books!

I want to start off by saying that the cover of this book is stunning! The detail and beauty of it is exquisite! Also, the title "To Everything a Season" fits just right for this book. This book is set in Blessing, North Dakota in 1905. One thing I was not expecting was that it is about the whole town, the back of this book eludes to the fact that it is centered around Trygve and Miriam, the hero doesn't show up in the book until chapter five and the heroine a bit later. There are two doctors in the town of Blessing, Astrid and Elizabeth, whom have their own books/stories written before this series, because of their work it gave the book a bit of excitement. Although toward the end it did get a bit slower. Ingeborg, who also had her own series, had an amazing faith. She was constantly praying for God's will and trusting and following His leading. She was an amazing woman! I loved all the characters and the whole town.

One thing I would like to say something about is this really didn't read like a first book to a new series. Because of this I felt a tad bit left behind when the book started. But it wasn't all bad, it just seemed like it needed something to make it seem more like the start of a new series. The end of the book was sad, but like the title explains there is a season for everything and that also made the story more life-like. The author is extremely talented, I could feel every emotion the characters were feeling. One other thing, this book ended on a extreme cliff-hanger, which of course is fine because I wanted to read the next book anyways but wouldn't be so wonderful for anyone who just likes stand-alones. There were just those few things I didn't like, there are a couple other things I didn't care for over much so but they wouldn't change my rating any, therefore I will leave those minor details out.

After all is said and done, I personally give this book 3 stars. I received this book from Bethany House Publishers for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are mine.
