What is prayer? Such a simple question can be disconcerting when it is put to you. This small book will help you to answer this question and others you may have about prayer.
Prayer is in essence talking and listening to God. In the words of Phillips Brooks prayer is "a wish turned Godward."
We are to come before God with the boldness of a child and tell God the desire of our heart. We are to be like those who sought healing from Jesus - we need to know what we want and tell Him, making sure we are heard. But prayer is more than just boldness we must also have humility in our requests.
Prayer can't be an occasional act but rather a daily part of our life. Prayer is not merely a way to pass the time of day, but a time of private communion and fellowship with God. When we pray we are to pray for a return to righteousness and salvation for all, including our enemies.
Also included in Everything the Bible Says About Prayer are examples of prayers found throughout the Bible. In the appendix is a commentary by Classic Christian Writers and their thoughts on prayer.
At just 126 pages Everything the Bible Says About Prayer delivers a lot of information for those seeking knowledge about prayer. Scripture from 11 different versions of the Bible is cited throughout.
I received a copy of this book from Bethany House for the purpose of this review and all opinions expressed are my own. -
B. A. PalmerTennessee5 Stars Out Of 5For Mature Christians...September 2, 2012B. A. PalmerTennesseeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This review was written for Everything the Bible Says About Prayer.Everything the Bible Says about Prayer? Ok another book on prayer...
Most books on prayer are going to teach you something new, so I read books on prayer. I am always trying to learn something new on this subject.
This is a fairly well organized book on prayer. It has explanations that I think even a new Christian could understand, but I would not recommend new Christians using this book unless they were sitting under a very Godly teacher. I did not like the many different translations. Young Christian can lose the meaning of scriptures in some of the more liberal translations. I would only recommend this for more mature Christians. It is a good study and read for a class or individual reading and studying.
It is a book I will use and read over and over as I study prayer. This book was given to me by Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. -

This book has been compiled by Keith Wall, and is useful to understand the elements of effective prayer, answers to prayer, and Jesus' teachings on prayer, which are contained in chapters one through four. It has been organized into different categories, making it useful when you need a Biblical prayer for a specific need, which are outlined in chapters five through thirteen. The appendix shares timeless truths from some of the classic Christian Writers. Reading the Scriptural prayers on a specific topic by chapters brought about hope and faith as I read them.
Some of the categories include prayers for: Guidance; Wisdom; Forgiveness; Salvation; Justice; Protection, Healing; Wholeness; Hardship; Heartache; Provision; Prosperity; Praise; Answers to prayer; Jesus' teachings on prayer; Praying with boldness; and Elements of prayer.
Though not a complete listing, the Scriptures contained in the chapters are comprehensive enough for a start. The reason I say it's not complete is because of all the prayers listed in my favorite chapter, Psalm 119.
The appendix includes thoughts on prayer that are necessary for a complete prayer life: Praying God's promises; Waiting on the Lord; God hearing us; Taking time for prayer; United in prayer; Meditation; Persevering prayer; Praying confidently; Intercessory prayer—the many aspects that some of us tend to forget. We learn that God hears and answers, but in His timing. I found this section very helpful in being steadfast in prayer when answers don't seem to be coming.
The thing that made it uncomfortable for me was all the different versions that were used. I prefer the word-for-word translations (NASB, KJV, ESV, and NKJV) versus the thought-for thought (NIV, NCV, HCSB) and paraphrase versions (THE MESSAGE, NLT). The latter two seem to water the Word down too much and lose the true Greek and Hebrew meanings.
This book was provided free by E. Hollister of Baker Publishing Group in exchange for my honest review. No monetary compensation was exchanged. -

Countless books have been written about prayer, how to pray, and when to pray. But not all of them have the whole truth.
This book includes exactly what God says about prayer, straight from his Word. Though they use many different versions of the bible.
It is organized by subject, such as prayer in the Old Testament, types of prayer, prayers of the psalmists, and prayers of Jesus.
All the scriptural prayers and primary references to prayer are collected in this clear, concise book, with enough explanation to help even those new to the Bible. Its length and focus make it perfect for readers who love the Word of God.
This book is in-sighting. I would only recommend to someone who is well grounded in biblical truths. Mainly because, as I said earlier, they use man different translations. I know that some people think it's okay as long as it's the bible.
The translations vary from NIV, HCSB, NLT, NCV, NKJV, The Message. An they all say a totally different thing.
I found it rather confusing at times because of the differences in verses. What does the bible really say? It's hard to concur seeing they use many different bibles.
All in all it is a very poetic book that some people may enjoy. I don't advise it for new Christians however. Especially those not well versed in the bible. -
DenetteAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5DisappointedNovember 26, 2012DenetteAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1This review was written for Everything the Bible Says About Prayer.I was given this book by Bethany House Publishers to read and review. Sad to say I was disappointed in this book. It was more quoting scripture then it was anything else. I thought it would be more thought provoking, instead it's more of breaking down prayers in the Bible. If you want something simple, this book is for you.
