I thoroughly enjoy the layout of this bible. The single column text is very comfortable for reading. The print is not too small for me but may be for some. The references being in the inner margin is a great idea. I have not found it difficult to read them. The leather was a little stiff, but it is softening out a bit now. I have had this bible for about two months and I use it everyday, whether at the table, curled up on the couch or at church. It is very comfortable. The binding seems solid and so far I have not found any printing errors. The paper is not too thin. You can see the print through the pages but not enough to be a distraction. My only wish would be that this bible came with crossways through the bible in a year reading plan. Other than that it suits my need for a personal size bible that you can carry anywhere.
This format is a great idea for a smaller bible. It's very legible and easy on the eyes. The leather it is bound with is deplorable, though. It looked, felt, and acted like bonded leather, and there are now hard, pinched wrinkles at the spine and outer edges of my copy. A map section would have been a nice addition, too. Overall, a decent purchase; perhaps the leather will relax a little. Caveat emptor.
This bible is a win in every aspect. The translation is reliable and literary and is the translation I prefer for both study and devotional reading. The size is perfect, not as small as most compact bibles, but smaller than most personal size bibles, it is easy to hold for long periods of reading and travels well. The font is small at 7 point, but is very legible and I have no problems reading for long periods, I do wear glasses. The leather binding felt stiff when I first purchased this Bible, but has softened considerably with use, and the sewn binding is a huge plus as it lays flat and adds to the durability of this Bible. This is a single column text bible with the cross references being on the inside gutter of each page, a brilliant design choice on Crossway's part in my opinion.
