I would say this is the best bargain in a Bible that you can take almost everywhere. I'm not a fan of imitation covers, but this will do for a working Bible. This one is actually my second copy. I'm anticipating using one for carry and the other one at my desk.

Very readable type and layout. It's also easy to hold, I have trouble holding a heavy Bible, much less carrying it to and from service or Bible study.

Congratulations to Crossway for this masterpiece! Where to begin?

If you order this Bible, you can have the same anticipation and excitement you would have with a $200 Bible. I don't like using the P-word on sites like this, but... this Bible is NEARING what a perfect Bible should be like. The only downside is that it is printed in China, but as I will tell you, this hardly matters.

Okay, so the cover is trutone. I was still going "What a nice cover!" when I took it out of the box. It has a nice leather grain stamped in, and it actually could pass for calfskin in my opinion. Very elegant. I was going to ship this thing off to Ace to get it rebound in a nice cover, but I'm going to wait til this cover wears out first.

I think I heard angels singing when I opened this up. Imagine Lexicon No. 1 font, but 1.25 pts bitter than the Pitt Minion text. (The text is SO readable. I don't even need my glasses.) Now make that single column, still keeping the line matching. The ink level, while not perfect, is quite consistent throughout; certainly no light pages.

$19.99 is a steal. I prefer using this Bible over my Allan and my Cambridge. Good work Crossway!

I was happily surprised by the quality, portability and readability of the Personal Reference ESV Bible (a revision of the Personal Size Reference ESV Bible - VERY similar names, but not to be confused); in my opinion this is one of the best ESV's plain text Bible editions available to date. Very light and compact yet the text is very readable and the line matching helps tremendously with bleed through of the text. This is the kind of Bible format one can hold for hours with one hand and neither arm or eyes get tired! Price is amazing too!

I just received my personal reference edition of the ESV. This is an excellent edition. Crossway is not making a calfskin edition of this bible and I can't figure out why. A few days ago I received my ESV Single Column Heritage Bible calfskin edition. As I compare the two I prefer the personal reference edition and here is why.

This bible is thinner then the heritage. This may not seem to be a big deal but 1/4 inch makes for a much more portable edition.

The bible is also lighter. This is a given since it is smaller but one thing really surprised my about the Heritage. It's a heavy bible relatively speaking. My arm literally got tired of holding it while I had ready a few chapters in Genesis while standing in my kitchen.

The bible is also highly readable. The line matching is perfect, making it a joy for my aging eyes. The heritage is also very readable, even more so but the paper is kinda think which contributes to the weight of the bible. The heritage also has a larger font.

I can't say enough about how much I like this bible and wish that it came in a calfskin edition. It still carries with it a lifetime warranty but this is one edition that I will use for years to come.
