The idea of this Electronic Bible is lacking. The light doesn't stay on, until you shut it off, instead, it turns itself off and leaves the reader in the dark. How inconvenient. Using the unit, is neither timely or easy to use, when you are seeking specific information. The one great feature is that it does have a good book marking system that one can rely upon when the unit is turned off for a period of time. It would be nicer, if the second version of Bible was selectable to a more favored version such as NIV or NKJV but you can't have everything is such an inexpensive unit. I would not have bought this at it's regular price, it had to be on sale...

It's exactly what I wanted. I've rigged a "yoke" onto the lid so that it attaches to the collar on the back of my husband's shirt. This way I can read my Bible while riding on the back of our motorcycle, with out worrying about it falling into the road or blowing away. I'm very happy with it.

[This review refers to Royal's model ESV1].

The cross-reference feature in the ESV is especially well executed, and makes it 100% worth every penny this product costs. Explanation: In most paper (hardback) column cross-reference Bibles, the font size in the column is way too small to be easily read, and it's much too hard to pick through the column to find what you're looking for. In contrast, with this electronic Bible, there is far greater ease of access and speed of access to the cross-references ("X-ref's"). And, just by touching the SPACE bar, the font for the X-ref list becomes much bigger (and hence even easier to read). I have found NO bugs or glitches in the X-ref feature of this model; in that respect, this model is perfect.

Another excellent feature of this model is the choice of modern translation (the ESV). Had the modern translation employed been the NIV, I would NOT have bought this product. And, If this product had NOT included the KJV, I would NOT have bought it, either.

This product needs to have its glaring glitches and bugs fixed. I'll not specify them, but I WILL specify major deficiencies in features that really do need to be addressed and rectified with a sorely-needed upgrade.

First, The BOOK, chapter, verse, and VERSION of the top line of the Bible text displayed should appear in a little panel at the top of the screen. Or, because screen space is at a premium, AT LEAST have a key on the keyboard so there is the OPTION of displaying that "reference panel" (a toggle key). OR, in lieu of that, there should be a key on the keyboard which, when touched, flashes the BOOK, chapter, verse, and VERSION (for two seconds).

Next, It is far too easy to lose your place. Example: If you inadvertently touch a wrong key that takes you out of the Bible text, there is no easy way to get back to where you were, but you have to remember where you were and go to the trouble (too many steps) to get back there. Solution: There needs to be a key in the keyboard that takes you back and displays the last verse that was displayed ("Last-Read-Verse" key.) ALSO, when you touch the Bible key, the top option listed should be "Last Read Verse," and it should be highlighted (pre-selected) for immediate display of that verse upon touching the OK key.

Next, The screen needs to be expanded in size AT NO INCREASE TO THE OVERALL SIZE OF THE UNIT to have at least TWO more lines AT THE SAME FONT SIZE. That would mean that the space for the keyboard would be diminished (and that's NOT a problem).

Next, the Instruction Manual is not very well-done, and does not even have an index.
