The Four Holy Gospels is an exquisitely designed and produced edition of the four canonical Gospels in the English Standard Version, published in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the King James Version (KJV) Bible in 1611.
The Four Holy Gospels features newly commissioned original paintings representing the four Gospel Evangelists, illuminated initial letters, and other embellishments and design elements, printed in full color throughout and on high-quality art paper. The text of the Gospels is reproduced in a highly readable, large font; ideally suited for public reading, liturgical use, and as a family heirloom.
The artist commissioned for the project is Makoto Fujimura, a devout Christian, and one of the most highly-regarded artists of the twenty-first century. He is the founder of the International Arts Movement and has served on the National Council for the Arts. His art is on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, as well as a number of art museums in the US. A premiere exhibition of the art created for The Four Holy Gospels is planned for December of 2010, at the Dillon Gallery in New York City.
The Four Holy Gospels stands in the historic stream of the beautifully hand-illuminated editions of the Gospels created many centuries ago. This exquisite and unique modern edition carries on a classic tradition, beautifully combining the words of the Gospels and original art, inspired by the text, and brilliantly executed for the glory of God.

John G. Lewis5 Stars Out Of 5Outstanding Presentation of the Four GospelsSeptember 7, 2011John G. LewisQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My what an outstanding product! Looks as is it came right from a museum! This is perhaps the finest modern presentation of the 4 Gospels I have ever seen... made in Old World style and quality. And wonderful as a present to the young Christian; or to a relation, or some person close to you whom... you would like to introduce the Gospel to.
I purchased the cloth covered version; I never saw the leather covered book... But seeing the quality of mine, I am duly wondering how good the other version is.... Yes, at $75 odd, this isn't cheap... But it in no wise should be - considering it's quality. For my cloth covered edition, I might have expected a price of $125 to $200....
If Crossway has "hit a home run" with their Large Print ESV's, their Calfskin and the new tru-tone Bibles (which is I think is true)... I would say they hit the ball out of the park here! Truly a wonderful exhibition of book making... but keep in mind, this is not the full New Testament, only the Gospels. My highest recommendation.

The illustrations that Makoto
created for this honor the scriptures and highlight the beauty of the words themselves. The leather bound edition is flawless with the heavy paper which brings out the wonderfull colors of the art. The gilt edges also indicate the specialness and beauty that are inside. The large text (13.25) was also a big plus for my older eyes. The margin art that Makoto has added is impressively minimal with just enough there for you to connect it with the text. A worthy printing to commemorate the 400th of the KJV.
