I picked this Bible up last year at a time when I was looking for an alternative to my old trusty NIV Seasons of Reflection One-Year Bible, something which could be used for personal reading as well as reference. A Bible which lists the yearly reading plan in the margins instead of breaking up the text into 365 daily readings? Sounded good to me. The cover and advertising for the Bible said nothing about the type of reading plan included, only that it took you "Through the Bible in a Year," as the cover states.
So when I received it, I was disappointed to look inside and see that the proposed reading plan takes you through the Old Testament once, the New Testament twice, and the Psalms twice. That isn't "through the Bible in a year," it's through the Bible *and then some* in a year. That reading plan may work for some people but it doesn't work for me; I don't believe that the New Testament and Psalms are more important than the rest of the Old Testament and need to be studied twice as much. The opening pages lazily suggest that if that plan is "too ambitious," you should just do the OT one year and the NT + Psalms the next year. What if I just want to go through the Bible in a year *as advertised*? What if I want to read from the New Testament every day, the Old Testament every day, and a selection from Psalms or Proverbs every day? Again, no suggestions or alternative plans are included or noted in the margins.
The three ribbon bookmarks are incredibly handy if you enjoy the proposed plan and intend to use it. If you don't like that reading plan but you like the ESV translation for personal study, you're better off just picking up any ESV reference Bible and implementing your own plan.
This is strictly a review of the features of the ESV Daily Reading Bible, not the ESV translation. I would give the ESV translation 3/5 stars.

I started using this Bible on January 1 of this year, and it now being mid-August, I truly love it. In one year it takes you through the Old Testament once, the Psalms twice, and the New Testament twice. It has the dates for each daily reading in the margins and three ribbon bookmarks to help you keep track of where you are in the OT, Psalms, and NT. I really like having the Bible laid out in standard order as opposed to mixing it around like most one-year Bibles do because this way I don't have to carry two Bibles around all the time. It has truly been a blessing to use this copy of the Scriptures in my daily time with the Lord.
As for the complaint someone left about missing dates in the margins, I have never seen any such thing. Occasionally I don't see the dates that are close to the center because I don't have it open wide enough, but they are all there as far as I can tell.
The only reason I gave this Bible 4.5 stars rather than 5 is the binding, which fell apart after only about 2 months of use. My wife hot glued it back together, and it has worked great ever since.
I would recommend this Bible for anyone who is serious about getting to know God's Word on a daily basis, but I do recommend that you order a hot glue gun along with it. I'd love to see a leather-bound edition come out.

Great concept, great reading plan, great versatility! However, missing dates in columns and dates out of place are distracting and show a serious shortfall in Crossway's quality control program.

While the format is a bit different than a traditional Daily Bible, once you get accustomed to it, his is a great way to make sure you read your Bible each day.
