I usually prefer fiction to non-fiction; however, after reading Holy Estrogen, I have decided to read more non-fiction titles--especially those by Carol McLeod. I'm a fan! I cannot praise this book enough. She writes with such clarity and insight, sharing her own personal experiences with the battle between soul and spirit. The 219 pages are filled with straight-forward talk about the issues of the heart and emotions that tells us what we need to hear in order to live the effective Christian lives that we are meant to live and in order to combat Satan's wiles. A wonderful book whose truths I intend to reread, highlight, and apply to my life. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.
Holy Estrogen by Carol McLeod truly lives up to the promise on the cover, "Every Woman's Guide to Making Her Emotions the Holiest Part of Her." The book oozes wisdom for living up to high standards to bless relationships instead of living down to base standards that will curse relationships. Scripture forms the supporting framework for this book. I found the message of this book to be relevant when considering the variety of emotional outbursts I have seen in women over my sixty years of life. This book spouts truth on every page.
The only part of the book that gave me momentary hesitation was the concept presented in the book about the difference between spirit and soul. I mostly think of the soul, as it was described in the book, as being the flesh. Adjusting my concept of the word was only a momentary distraction.
I highly recommend this book to all ladies who want to work toward better understanding and control of emotions. The world would be a kinder and gentler environment if more women would read and apply this book to their lives. Men can read it for better understanding of women in their lives and to help support the women as they work toward holy transformation.

Holy Estrogen was a fun and informative read. Ms. McLeod does a great job of sharing personal insight along with Christian teaching about how women can go beyond their feelings to a place of victory in righteous living through the power of the Holy Spirit. Her writing is applicable for women of all ages. Holy Estrogen is a great read but also a great resource for applying biblical principles in everyday life. I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Holy Estrogen was written by Carol McLeod and published by Harrison House (2011). Carol McLeod is currently a radio host, Bible teacher and popular speaker at women's conferences. She has written other books.
The author states that a woman's emotions can be out of control, raw, and treacherous, but also recognizes that emotions are common parts of a woman's life. McLeod makes it clear that that you cannot depend upon feelings and emotions and that you have to lean on the promises of God's Word as your authority. She gives many practical strategies on how to handle your emotions. She also presents ways to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ, feel the power of the Spirit, have a healthy spirit, and know how to deal with your emotions. In chapter 4, my favorite chapter, the author discusses the difference between the soul and the spirit. It was very enlightening.
The book is practical and a good resource to have on hand for men and women. I highly recommend this book.
