Following the conquest of Babylon, the King of Persia gives a banquet for his people at which he requests the presence of his wife, Vashti. As she refuses the King's demand, Ahasuerus disowns Vashti and goes in search of her replacement. In his harem, he meets the young girl Esther who immediately captivates him with her charm and beauty. Unaware of her Jewish heritage, King Ahasuerus falls in love with Esther. Esther then reveals to Ahasuerus that she is Jewish and asks him to show her people mercy, because of a planned genocide of the Jews by the King's right-hand man, Haman. In doing so, she saves the lives of many innocent people and paves the way for their return to Jerusalem. 91 minutes.

Our ELCA women's Bible study for March, April, and May is on Esther. I bought the DVD "Esther" for the circles to use. I think it will work out well. I looked at the ratings first to see which version would be best.

This movie has most definitely blessed us. The movie really does a good job of showing visually what happened in the book of Esther. You really get a feeling and better understanding of what and why things happened the way they did in the book. Not so fantasy-like or too romantic as "One night with the King"; instead "ESTHER" focuses more on God's purpose of her being in that situation to save her Jewish people from doom. I say: BUY IT!!!

AWESOME!!!!! This movie is the closest to the Bible account of Esther! To me that's a BIG plus!!!
You can't top God on anything, and that includes stories! The way the book of Esther was written in the Bible is superb!!!
There's action, adventure, romance, and even a little humor at times! I'd defenitely buy this movie!!!!! It's far superior to "One Night With The King"!!!
