Grant Rees5 Stars Out Of 5May 7, 2008Grant ReesRegardless of your age, there is always something new to learn -- like "Techno Lingo" or "essential emoticon list"; and it's always great to get another opinion of the essentials for the pantry, refrigerator, etc. The overall theme seems to be a mix of "getting organized" and learning how to cope with the many responsibilities of life -- and to take on those responsibilities by knowing the "essentials of survival" in today's world. This book is a very good resource for responsible families to teach their children (and themselves) various topics which will help them be responsible citizens.
Patricia Chadwick5 Stars Out Of 5April 29, 2008Patricia ChadwickThis is a wonderful tool for young adults moving out on their own. It is full of practical advice such as setting goals, what do do when you are sick, taking care of your car, eating well, how to pay your bills on time, and housework. While this may seem dull to some, the author writes in an engaging style that keeps your interest. I had my oldest son look it over (he's 24 and soon to be married) and he said he wished he'd read this before he moved out...he had to learn these things the hard way! This will make a great graduation gift.
Kim Cooper5 Stars Out Of 5March 17, 2008Kim CooperGreat graduation present. A must to get this year. My two college students reviewed the book and said that it has a lot of practical information and is easy to read. Parents - if you have students leaving home this next year then you need to get this book for them.
kevin5 Stars Out Of 5March 11, 2008kevinEssential Survival Guide to Living on Your Own is fantastic! I have a niece who is headed off to college, leaving home for the first time and I cannot think of a better gift for her. This book is simply loaded with information that only life teaches. It will save her money, many hours of work and prevent tons of headaches. A really nice feature of the book is the page in almost every chapter where I was able to add my own advice or where she can take notes for future reference. If you are not familiar with the book, it provides information on everyday living, like doing your laundry, finding an apartment, picking a roommate, buying a house, buying a car, finding a church, dealing with finances etc. Sounds kind of mundane, but with a teenager in my house those are things I am starting to realize I had to learn on my own when I left home, sometimes painfully. This book covers everything I went through and would say to my niece or son. And it does it from a Christian perspective!
Babs5 Stars Out Of 5March 9, 2008BabsI have never seen a more practical How to guide! From how to fry an egg, to knowing when to go to the doctor, to sorting laundry, to registering to vote every conceivable question a person going out on their own might have seems to be addressed here. This book is easy to read and easy to use. There are checklists and charts, and the author doesnt assume that the reader has any previous knowledge of the subject. I bought the book with a college graduate in mind, but have read and am using it myself, and Ive been out on my own for over 30 years!
