This is comprehensive.
If you want to make sure that you cover EVERYTHING, in a fun, well-planned and thought-out curriculum, then this is it. As a homeschool educator, I didn't feel I needed the Tests and Answer Keys, so I just got the student workbook and Teacher's Edition/Toolkit (The CD that comes with it is AWESOME because you can use it for your other children later, even if the workbook becomes obsolete). I love them both! The lessons can be taught in under 15 minutes, yet the material is thoroughly covered. Also, the lessons are so well-organized! Also, there is so much content that if you feel like skipping some of the lessons, you'll still have enough content to cover the entire school year. I have tried other Grammar/Language Arts curriculum, including Learning Language Arts Through Literature (LLATL), A Beka, and Christian Light Education (CLE). I can tell you, I have found this to be the best. I plan to stick through this until at least middle school, possibly beyond.

Great Grammar
We started homeschooling 5 years ago, & I wish we would have used this curriculum with our oldest. At the time I thought it was "too pricey" - but it would have been worth it to avoid all the tears & frustration we had with other curriculum (several). We ended up switching our oldest to BJU Grammar curriculum & it's made all the difference in the world! (but in a later grade) When it came time for our youngest to be a second grader, we started off with this & have had no problems. Another reviewer thought it was a bit advanced because of the editing that's introduced, but my public schooled niece also does this. The CD-ROM has review pages to print off - these really help a lot. I've already purchased grade 3 for when we need it.

I LOVE this curriculum for grammar and writing! One chapter may cover grammar concepts (nouns/verbs) and the next may be about writing book reports. Read the table of contents to see what it covers. I think this curriculum combined with the BJU Press Reading make an excellent language arts curriculum combination, though I do supplement with a additional spelling program. The lessons are complete, but do require teacher input. My children all have learning disabilities and we find this an excellent program. It is a lot for one year for us. So, we made it 1 1/2 years worth of work. Faster learners would probably not require the extra time to get through the material.

This is our first year homeschooling and I thought we'd give BJU English a try. Honestly, it is probably my favourite pick for curriculum this year. We will likely be choosing this one again for the next year. The pages are colourful, lessons are a great length, and it covers our curriculum requirements wonderfully!
