Historical/Inspirational/Romance
Here's a book that took me by surpriseâÂÂa very pleasant surprise. To be completely honest, after reading the prologue and then the first chapter or so, I felt confused as I tried to reconcile the very different images shown of the main character. However, I'm not sure exactly where or when it happened, but after I gave up trying to figure it out, I became caught up in Colette (Lettie) Palmer's story.
As a young girl, Lettie moves with her family to Wisconsin where her father becomes part owner of a logging mill. She has energy, inquisitiveness, faith, and just a pure joy and love for life. She grows into a woman and many special relationships were forged. The plot broadens, and many questions are raised in the mind of the reader... for example why is Lettie marrying the man she is? For up until now, she has so patiently waited for the man God intended for her. Why throw that all away? The author skillfully answers every question through the multi-layered plot leaving the reader very fulfilled and contented by the end of the book.
What I enjoyed the most about this story is that although Lettie realizes she made a mistake in marrying the man she has, rather than run from the consequences, she stays true to the vows she made with the sole intent and purpose to honor the Lord. What strength of characterâÂÂand what wonderful encouragement and reminder to us in our own personal journeysâÂÂhonoring the Lord may not be easy, but it is the right thing to do.
As the story went on, I couldn't put the book down. If you're looking for a rich story with a historical flare, sweet romance, true love and a growing steadfast faith, you can't go wrong with this title.
