Product DescriptionThe issue of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 did not do away with segregation. It did not do away with racism. And in some areas of the South, it did not even do away with slavery.
Sold into slavery at age 5 in 1916 along with his two sisters, Robert Sadler lived on a plantation where he witnessed and lived the brutality of slavery years after it was supposed to have been abolished. Owned by a Ku Klux Klan member, Robert was beaten and worked sunup to sundown in the house and in the cotton fields. His sisters were sold as well; separated from the eldest, his sister Pearl cared for him until her death at the age of 14 after being gang-raped, repeatedly burned with a poker, and sent back out into the fields sick. Seeing other slaves beaten and attempted to be hung for escaping, Robert continued to work until one day, he walked down the driveway, down the road, and escaped. This amazing story follows Robert throughout his life, from his early days with no skills, education, or wealth, to how he worked at obtaining an education, moved up north, and grew in his relationship with God. A powerful tale of forgiveness and the strength that trusting in God can bring, Robert Sadler's story is one not soon forgotten. 299 pages, softcover. Product Information
