My daughter LOVES Elsie!! My younger daughter and I stumbled upon Elsie and we have both been captivated! We are SO enjoying the story and I have also been surprised and interested in the swirl of controversy surrounding "Elsie" fans and foes on-line. The story is set on a plantation in the south prior to the civil war. It is a charming story, but obviously includes, without apology: racism, slavery, sexism, elitism, etc.; in short, many elements of daily life for these characters of the time, which we now find repugnant to conscience. I would not reccomend the book to others for that reason, but as a story in context of the time, it is delightful! January 22, 2011

This was a gift for my granddaughter at Christmas and she absolutley loved it. She already owns the 1st in the series and we gave her # 2 & 3. We love supporting the traditions that our family hold dear and Elsie's stories are Godly role models. January 4, 2010
