There are various authors of the books contained in the treasury, including Jane Werner Watson, who edited and wrote hundreds of Golden Books. She called Eloise Wilkin "the soul of Little Golden Books."

Eloise Wilkin (1904–1987) illustrated dozens of classic Golden Books in her long career. Famous for her instantly recognizable style, she provided the art for such books as Baby Dear, We Help Mommy, and the original Little Golden Book versions of Prayers for Children and My Little Golden Book About God.

Some of my readers already know how fond I am of the cherub-like children drawn by Eloise Wilkin (1904–1987). I am happy to announce that a collection of nine of her stories—some of my all-time favorite Golden Books—is back in print.

I read aloud Baby Dear countless times to our firstborn daughter when her sister came along. The story’s mother takes care of her baby throughout the day while the little girl does the same with her baby doll. When my girls were old enough to do little chores around the house, We Help Mommy was read repeatedly. Preschool children like hearing the same books read aloud to them over and over. And the tender scenes and words found in these stories were the kind I never minded reading again and again. Perhaps one day, We Help Daddy will be republished. Our copy became worn out after our son came along.

In Eloise Wilkin Stories, I think you will appreciate how nature is portrayed, how the family members dress, how the houses are tastefully furnished . . . but mostly how the love of children is evident in the strokes of this illustrator’s paintbrush. 209 pages, hardcover from Random House.
