Tell us a little about yourself. John has a bachelors degree in Journalism with a minor in Marketing. Kathy has been a stay at home mom for the past ten years. They live with their two sons, Evan and James, (with a third child, Grace, on the way) near Cincinnati, OH. John and Kathy consider their children of utmost importance and desire for them to think for themselves instead of blindly following everything that the world tells them. Their greatest joy is knowing that their children walk in the truth.
What was your motivation behind this project? To reach young kids through early teens to get them excited about God's Word. We wanted to create a character that can have Scripture revealed to him in an exciting way without it being hidden in allegory and hopefully get readers curious and/or excited to learn more about the history in the Bible.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? We hope that readers will understand the truth and authority of every word in the Bible, that Scripture can be trusted to the fullest from beginning to end.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Writing this book actually helped us get deeper into Scripture and got us even more excited about getting kids excited about the Bible. We saw His hand throughout the entire process and we are so excited to see what His plans are for the book. If you can't tell already, it got us excited! :)
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Many people at Answers in Genesis. Carl Kerby (who has endorsed the book) makes a statement in one of his talks about influencing the culture and that comment has been burning in our hearts ever since the inception of Elkan.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: There was a review done in Homeschool Enrichment magazine that is available on their web site as well as on the official Elkan web site ElkanTheBook.com. There is also a STUDY GUIDE to accompany the book that is a FREE DOWNLOAD off the web site.
