How do I read my eBook on my dedicated eReading Device (nook™, Sony® and Kobo® Readers, etc.)?

Video Tutorials:

To load your purchased eBook onto a dedicated eReading device—Sony® Reader, nook™, Kobo® eReader  or many other popular devices—you must first download your eBook to Adobe® Digital Editions. If you have already installed ADE and registered your computer with your Adobe® ID, go to the eBooks section section of ‘My Account’ and skip the next paragraph.

If you have not installed ADE to your computer, you can download it from theeBooks section of your Christianbook.com account. Once ADE is installed, authorize your computer by clicking on the Help option in the top left corner of the ADE screen. If you’re installing ADE for the first time, you’ll need to create an Adobe® ID (which can be done during the authorize computer process). When you’ve finished, return to the eBooks section of your account page in your internet browser.

From there, you can download your eBook to ADE by clicking the “Download” button corresponding to the eBook you wish to download. Select either to save or open the file “URLLink.acsm”. If you choose to open it, your eBook will download and automatically open in ADE. If you choose to save it, be sure to save to a location that you will be able to find. Once it has been downloaded and saved, manually opening the file will display your eBook in ADE.

While you are still in ADE, connect your dedicated eReading device to your computer. When it is connected, your device will appear as a "bookshelf" in the left column of ADE. You will then be able to transfer the eBook to your dedicated eReading device by dragging the book from your ADE library onto your device. Please note that your device’s ID and your Adobe® ID must match for DRM protected eBooks to be transferred to your device. Once this is completed you can start reading on your eReading device immediately, whether or not your device is connected to the internet.

When transferring an eBook to my nook, I get the error "user not activated." How can I fix this?

If you are receiving an error message that says “user not activated”, when trying to read an eBook on your device, it is likely because your Adobe ID has not been activated on your device. We have found two different solutions that should help you resolve this error message.

Solution 1
We recommend first making sure that your device is unplugged from your computer and then opening Adobe Digital Editions. Then once, you’ve opened ADE click on Library at the top of the page, and then click “Authorize Computer”. If you’ve already authorized your computer with an Adobe ID then it will tell you so, otherwise please fill in the information to authorize your computer.

Once you’ve verified that your computer has been authorized, plug in your device and watch for any messages that come up in ADE. If your eReader has not been authorized, or has been with another email address you should receive a message that asks you if you would like to authorize your device to the same email address that you have authorized your computer with, click Authorize.

If you don’t see any on screen prompts when plugging in your device, please click on the image of your device located on the left side of ADE below your “Bookshelves”. Once you’ve clicked on the picture of your device, look for the Options button at the bottom of your screen and click on the arrow, a menu should come up giving you the option to Activate your device—click that and follow the instructions in the box that appears.

Solution 2
We’ve also found that many Nook users have found success in removing the Adobe Digital Editions folders from their Nook and then re-authorizing their devices. Before doing so however, we’d like to caution you that doing so would cause you to have to reload all of the eBooks that you’ve placed on your Nook through ADE.

  1. Close out of Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Connect your device to your computer
  3. Once you have plugged in your device, open it in Windows Explorer, or Finder if you have a Mac, and delete the Digital Editons and .adobe.digital.editions folders.
  4. After you’ve deleted these folders from your device, eject or unplug it and open Adobe Digital Editions.
  5. Connect your eReader and follow the on screen prompts to Activate it.

I can’t find my Christianbook.com eBooks on my nook™. Where did they go?

First, be sure to follow all directions from the FAQ , “How do I read my eBook on my dedicated eReading Device?” Then disconnect your nook from your computer.

There are two libraries of eBooks stored on your nook device. The first, your "B&N Library" stores all the books you’ve purchased from Barnes and Noble. The second, "My Documents," stores your books from other vendors, including Christianbook.com. The nook sorts your library this way automatically.

To access the "My Documents" library on your nook, tap the nook symbol to bring up the touch screen options at the bottom of the nook, and select “Library.” Once there, the touch screen portion will display either ”View My Documents” or “View My B&N Library,” depending on which you are in currently.

If you have already dragged your eBooks on to your nook from Adobe® Digital Editions, they will be located in the "My Documents" library on your nook, which is only accessible when your nook is not plugged in to your computer.

I can’t find my Christianbook.com eBooks on my nook color™. Where did they go?

First, be sure to follow all directions from the FAQ , “How do I read my eBook on my dedicated eReading Device?” Then disconnect your nook color from your computer.

There are multiple libraries of eBooks stored on your nook color device. The first, your "B&N Library" stores all the books you’ve purchased from Barnes and Noble. The rest of your eBooks which have been transfered to your nook color through Adobe Digital Editions, including eBooks purchased from Christianbook.com, are stored in the "My Files" section of your Library. The nook color sorts your library this way automatically.

To access the "My Files" section of your nook color, press the arrow at the bottom of the screen and select “Library.” Once you are in your library, you will want to navigate to the "My Files" section of your library, located at the top of your screen. If you have already transfered an eBook to your nook color using Adobe Digital Editions, you will see a folder titled, "Digital Editions." The Christianbook.com eBooks you have transfered will be located in this folder.

If you would like to move a Christianbook.com eBook to a different shelf, touch the book you wish to move until a menu pops up. This menu will allow you to "Add to Shelf", which enables you to move it from the "Digital Editions" folder.

When I download an eBook, I get an error message saying that I do not have an internet connection. How can I fix this?

Many eReaders come with their own software, which may be set as the default eBook software on your computer, instead of Adobe® Digital Editions.

To resolve this problem, you must manually select your eBook to open in Adobe®. To do this, click the “Account” link at the top of any page on Christianbook.com. After you’ve logged in with your email address and password, you‘ll arrive at the “My Account” page. Next, click the “eBooks” tab.

Now that you’ve clicked the “eBooks” tab, all of your eBooks will be displayed. To download an eBook, click the “Download” button to the right of the title. An “Adobe® Digital Editions Installer” screen will display prompting you to “Download Item.”

Click “Download Item” and look for any security messages that might display on your computer; sometimes these appear at the bottom of the browser window and you’ll need to click to bring up the message. Answer “Yes” or “Allow” to any security messages you may receive until a new box opens that asks you to OPEN or SAVE a file named “URLLink.acsm”. Instead of clicking “OPEN,” click “SAVE.” Be sure to save the file to a location you’ll be able to find easily later – we recommend saving to your Desktop.

After downloading, you will need to locate the file, “URLLink.acsm,” that you just saved to your computer. Once you have found the URLLink, right-click on the file and a menu box will open. From those options, select “Open With” and a new window will ask you to select a program. Choose Adobe® Digital Editions and your eBook should download to your Adobe® Digital Editions Library, allowing you to drag it on to your eReading device.

What is Adobe® Digital Editions?
Adobe® Digital Editions is an eBook reader that is used while online or offline to read .ePub and .pdf files. ADE is also used to transfer eBooks from your computer to dedicated eReading devices such as the Sony® Readers, nook™, and other popular devices. ADE can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
How do I download Adobe® Digital Editions?

Click here and select “Install”. When it is downloaded and the program opens, you'll need to authorize your computer with an Adobe® ID. This will allow you to open your DRM-protected content. If you do not have a free Adobe® ID, click on the "Help" link in the top left corner of the ADE screen and select “Authorize Computer.” When the authorization process begins, a blue hyperlink will appear, prompting you to "Create an Adobe ID." Click this to create your ID. When you've finished, return to ADE and sign in with the ID you've just created.

Please note: If you are downloading your eBooks from the eBooks section of your Christianbook.com account, a link will prompt you to install Adobe® Digital Editions if you have not already done so.
