Product Description

Acclaimed art historian Tim Marlow introduces us to great masterpieces of Western art. This DVD is divided into three parts:

Part one: Betrayal---Marlow begins by looking at depictions of The Last Supper, including Leornardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, a 6th century mosaic and a modern interpretation by Chris Ofili; plus masterpieces from Bosh and Tintoretto. Finally, Marlow examines portrayals of Jesus’ final judgment in works by Honoré Daumier and Mark Wallinger.

Part Two: Crucifixion---Marlow’s exploration begins in Varallo, northern Italy, where the Stations of the Cross were carved into a series of sculptures and frescoes by a 15th century Franciscan friar and the art of Tintoretto.

Part three: Resurrection---Marlow takes a look at works by Giotto, Michelangelo and Sam Taylor-wood depicting the mourning over Jesus’ body. He then compares interpretations of the resurrection and ascension in several contrasting treatments, including works by Grünewald, Rembrandt and Stanley Spencer.
