Product Description

Early Christian Doctrine is a clear, precise and up-to-date account of the early history of Christian doctrine. It is invaluable for an understanding of the formative period when the main lines of Christian dogma were laid down; and it presents a balanced picture of the early controversies in the light of modern scholarship. The doctrines of the Trinity, the authority of the Bible and tradition, the nature of Christ, salvation, original sin and grace, and the sacraments are all extensively treated in these pages.

As a theological undergrad student performing an independent study of Christology, Kelley's work was chosen by my professor to serve as the chief text. I found this book to extremely exhaustive, both physically and mentally, yet it is a seminal work giving the reader great insight to the formation accepted church doctrine and the specific issues which marked heresies. I highly recommend it as a beginning point for any desiring to study church history, dogma, creeds, doctrine, or even soteriology. A must have for any self-respecting theologians library!
