While this book was written for junior high students, I would say that is would be more appropriate for high schoolers with a basic framework already in place of US events. It does a great job of integrating events in the US with those around the world. I do not know why the description here states that is uses America's Providential History, as I have found no reference to that in the guide. My daughter is currently using the course side by side with BJU US history and that seems to be the most effective for us as she is preparing to CLEP out of US history this year. I would recommend some sort of basic US history text along with this course to keep the flow of events clear. There are plenty of questions and activities in the guide so be sure to pick and choose what works best for you. The reading selections are excellent and I personally have learned a lot.
