Everything changes when God enters his life-in the unconventional form of a hard slap by an old girlfriend-and ignites a new, greater passion within Jeth. But along with fervor comes fear at the undeniable evidence of God's hand on his life. Inexplicable events, both good and bad, make him moan plaintively, "Why does God do this to me? I get the feeling I'm being set up for something."
He is, indeed. Jeth's life is anything but predictable, much like the God he serves. The real Dynamo and his ultimate trainer emerge out of an excruciating mix of disaster and brokenness, which are never beyond the reach of redemption.
This story is God in your face: Who is He really? What does He ask of us?

Doris WrightMorganfield, KYAge: 55-65Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5DisappointedOctober 25, 2014Doris WrightMorganfield, KYAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1The only thing I liked about this book was the horses. The book was supposed to be about a stallion named Dynamo, but, Dynamo took a backseat in this book. Rob & jeth formed a friendship really quick and it was like Jeth was the boss and Rob the employee. Seems like Jeth was making all the decisions. Jeth dreaming about being in bed with Rob's wife, Katie, who is his boss, really. If he wasn't dreaming about being in bed with Katie he was dreaming about being in bed with Janni. This book is so poorly written and boring. I got to chapter 15 and stopped reading. I can't even finish it. I wasted my money on this one.
Trinity RoseOhioAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Fogivness and love of GodJuly 22, 2014Trinity RoseOhioAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Dynamo by Eleanor Gustafson is such an excellent book. I thought it would be good when I read the back, but nothing prepared me for how fantastic it is.
Jeth made mistakes in life like we all do, but he learned many lessons from his and tries to live differently. Rob and Katie believe in Jeth and not many people ever had. Jeth knows nothing about God, but he has plenty of questions and not the ones you would expect. Another wonderful character in this book is Maybelle. She isn't in many scenes, but she plays a huge part as being Jeth's angel and always is there to help him with whatever life throws at him.
Nothing is common about this story. It is so full of love, peace, forgiveness, life and loss. It is really, really a book to read. Eleanor Gustafson is a new author to me, but she is now a new favorite. If her other books are half as good as Dynamo they would be worth reading. I highly recommend Dynamo.
KathleenBurlington, NCAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Gospel TruthMay 5, 2014KathleenBurlington, NCAge: 55-65Gender: femaleThis book clearly presents the Gospel. The struggle that takes place in each of us as we learn to submit our wills to the will of our Lord is clearly depicted in the character of Jeth. A good book to send to someone who might not listen to the Gospel in any other way.
Anna BRowley, MAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent! Riveting!May 5, 2014Anna BRowley, MAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Dynamo is a captivating novel from the very first page!
Jeth and the other characters are genuine folks experiencing 'real life' problems, emotions, fears and desires that can be related to.
The story is riveting and kept me pondering in-between readings.
There were surprising and believable twists that caught me off guard and captivated to the very last page!
It is definitely a book that I will read again only slower this time since I know how it turns out!
Kudos to Eleanor Gustafson! I truly hope you will consider writing a sequel.
Art EdVermontAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Fast paced and unpredictableApril 9, 2014Art EdVermontAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Dynamo the horse, is majestic. The main character "Jeth" has an immediate, visceral attraction to such beauty and power when he spots the huge stallion at a disheveled horse farm. The author tells us Jeth has "a direction in mind but no destination" however, his experiences which follow are as intense and fast paced as the horse races in which Jeth and Dynamo courageously compete.
The author is generous with lasting mental images of spiritual testing, as the unsettling expression "used of God" comes to mind. The people she describes are memorable too; for example, we certainly wish a "Maybelle" could mentor every wandering life. Realistic scabs and scars mark characters if they proudly avoid God's grace. "Thunder, lightning, cloud and fire"of biblical proportions move constantly throughout human relationships. This story twists, turns, and evades our speculations until finally, Jeth experiences a victory lap, although we hesitate to call it a "destination". I think, instead, he takes joy in God's will; nothing else and nothing less.

Tell us a little about yourself. I grew up in northern New Jersey at a time when the cow population outnumbered people. God planted me in a small town and declared it VERY GOOD.
What was your motivation behind this project? In that small town lived a couple who had horses and cared about kids. Also, the Sussex Co. Farm and Horse Show came every summer. That's the horse part of DYNAMO. The God part is more complicated, but remember, He planted and shaped me.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I want readers to enjoy the horse world, but more importantly, I want them to see God through new eyes. Who is He really? What does He ask of us?
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Several of the characters--Maybelle especially--taught me a lot about this unpredictable God. In one of her interactions with Jeth, she quotes Scripture: "I can do all things through Christ who...weakens me" (the Maybelle Revised Version), but that's just the word Jeth (and I) need.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The small town of my birth, Wheaton College, a rich batch of friends and family, music, art, and literature classics (my two favorite books are JANE EYRE and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE). Writing itself has become a means of both accessing and sharing the God of all wonders.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I should mention my previous book, THE STONES: A Novel of the Life of King David. It not only got excellent reviews, but men relate to David the warrior, and women to Abigail, David's third and most practical wife. DYNAMO, too, should play well with men--on many levels.
