  • Andreola Review

I’ll be honest with you. When we watched Drive Thru History, I thought, “These do teach interesting Christian truths not unearthed in the typical history course, and I did laugh at the humor, but at the same time the fast-paced style was rather flashy for my (midlife, feminine) tastes.” Dean, however, found it all fascinating. (Perhaps it’s a masculine thing.) Then came Drive Thru History America—a subject closer to my heart. When I watched it, one biography at a time, I found each segment to be just as fast-paced and entertaining, but somehow less flashy and, best of all, satisfyingly meaty. I say “meaty” because I learned details I hadn’t come across in 20 years of homeschooling. Therefore, this time, I’m writing the review.

Based on the respected work of David Barton, famous Americans are examined for their contribution to our country and, most importantly, an outstanding virtue in their character that empowered them. Meet George Washington, Ben Franklin, John Quincy Adams, Abigail Adams, Benjamin Rush, Noah Webster, John Quincy Adams, and others. What better way to gain enthusiasm for learning history than to be inspired by the characteristics of particular men and women? Nine DVD-ROM presentations are supported by nine lessons in the accompanying 125-page book. Each chapter has a reproducible work-page with a few pointed questions. Because of its concentrated themes and entertaining information, this curriculum kit would be well suited for a co-op setting or a family of combined ages. Appropriate for middle school to high school students, but younger ones could join in, too. Teacher’s guide on disk.
