Couldn't put it down!January 3, 2013Steph73Kokomo, INAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I went to go wrap this book as a gift for my 8 year old niece, I just had to read it first because I knew it was something that I myself would want in my collection. I absolutely could not put it down until I read the entire thing--it was that good! When my niece unwrapped it on Christmas, it was like she disappeared the rest of that night because her head was buried in it--she liked it that much. Needless to say, this was a very satisfactory purchased.
Debbie from Genre Reviews5 Stars Out Of 5July 29, 2010Debbie from Genre Reviews"Dragons of the Deep" is a children's nonfiction book about huge sea creatures (marine reptiles and mammals, turtles, squid, fish and sharks) of both the past and present. Adults will enjoy the book as well. It covered 17 main sea monsters with a 4 page spread for each creature. The author discussed what we know about the creature and, if it's thought to be extinct, what fossil evidence this information was based on (bones, skin impressions, stomach contents, etc.). We're given the creature's name, length, weight, the location it (or it's fossils) have been found, and fun facts about what it ate or what legends might be based on it. There's a painting-style picture of what each creature might have looked like, pictures of live ones, pictures of the fossils, illustrations showing how large they were compared to common objects (like cars), and more.Woven into this was information on how we can determine things about what the creature was like based on the fossils. Also, when discussing how and where the various fossils of the creatures were found, the author discussed how fossils are formed. The book was written from a Christian perspective, so the author occasionally said things like "God created this creature..." or refered to Noah's Flood as creating many fossils. Overall, I enjoyed the book and thought it was very well done. I'd recommend it to children and adults who are interested in sea monsters.I gave this book to a girl who'd just turned 13 years old. She was highly engaged by it, and, as she was reading, she kept looking up to say, "Hey, did you know that such-and-such was this big?" and other things she'd just learned from it. She read the whole book at one sitting, and I suspect she'll be going back to look at it again.

John5 Stars Out Of 5July 25, 2006JohnThis is an in-depth and uniquely special account of the dinosaurs under the seas. The graphics and artwork are impeccably done yet most certainly, the best part of this book is its descriptive, almost exhaustive account of each individual "Dragon of the Deep". I've been touched by how biblically accurate, scientifically researched and well written this book is. Each graphic is stunning, each factoid or proposition, thoroughly thought out. Moreover, I am passionately zealous about training my children up in the way of the Lord. To say that my five-year-old son is fascinated with dinosaurs is a complete understatement; he is mesmerized. I'm encouraged to see fantastic material that combines Scripture, science, and salutary exposition on some of most magnificent creatures the Lord has ever made. The heavens and the seas and all that are in them declare the glory of God. In a world rife with lies and evolutionary spin, it is such a refreshing contrast to see well produced material such as this to deliver the truth to kids. I, for one, highly recommend this product not only for children but also for adults, perhaps especially for grown men and women inundated with the notion that creation science can't be chic, cutting edge, challenging and relevant in a postmodern world. In my humble opinion, I believe practically every picture Bible or scripturally sound piece of literature that incorporates images and words combined with the Holy Word should be redone! Why in the world do we have so many illustrations of tiny, wimpy little Adam and Eve's, King David's, Joshua's and Jesus's permeating the canons of our children's Christian libraries, when we could be offering them so much more dynamism, excitement and truth? Not everything has to be photorealistic, but where are the incredibly talented artists and illustrators out there who love the Lord and want to deliver something authentic to today's youth? I'm a stickler for detail, and this book does not disappoint.
