Downhere's sophomore album pairs the Canadian foursome with famed producer, Jimmy Lee Sloas (PFR, Switchfoot) and showcases the songwriting talents of band members Jason Germain and Marc Martel. The album features such diverse topics as depression, loneliness and pain, as well as worship, encouragement in faith, and our responsibility to be Christ-like.

Having heard other CDs from downhere, I must admit that I had mixed reactions to the more rocking style to this CD at first. After multiple listens, it REALLY grew on me pretty quick! This proves that downhere is magnificent at whatever style they choose. There is one hidden track at the end called "Home" which is just plain beautiful. Another solid entry from downhere and I recommend it for sure!!

Amazing cd. I had a couple songs off of their old cd (Calmer of the Storm is one of the THE BEST songs ever written). I really liked them, and found out they had a new cd and thought it'd be nice to get... so I invested. WOW - what a great cd. Every track is amazing, and the soft songs are awesome. I enjoy the almost "Kevin Max-y" voice of the lead singer (listen for it... awesome voice). Buy it... it's great.

This CD, is great! I won it, and I din't know what CD I was getting. When I got it, I thought, well, I've heard of them, and I've heard one of their songs, but it's really not my style. Then, one night, a week after I got it, I decided to listen. The song I heard was suddenly my style, and I was loving the CD. The song Iliad made me start to cry. I had recently seen "The Passion", so any song about the crucifixion makes me cry harder than ever, but, believe me, I recommend this CD, big time.

This is an absolutely incredible CD! Of my 80+ CD's, this one is one of my top five favorites. Two of the best songs on So Much for Substitutes are "What it's Like" and "Iliad". I have been to three Downhere concerts and have met all of the band members. I like Downhere better than any other band. Downhere is definitely one of the best bands ever!

This CD is amazing! The vocal talent of Mark and Germaine is simply astounding, and the sound and instrumentalism is top notch! The CD has slow, worshipful ballads and hard-edged rock songs, which is great. None of the songs sound the same! I personally have met all of the guys in the band, and they truly believe what they sing about, which is something that can't always be said for many Christian artists. Best tracks are: Breaking Me Down, Starspin, and In America (my personal fave).
