Product Description

What gives a person value? What provides purpose for a life? Who Am I? And What Am I Doing Here? helps children understand what it means to be made in the image of God.

Designed around a notebooking concept, instructions provide opportunities for students to think about the lesson questions as well as consider their own thoughts. Each lesson features an introduction to the main topic, learning objectives, a short story, thought-provoking questions, important vocabulary words, two Bible memory verses, interesting interdisciplinary topics, godly character traits that students should demonstrate as a response, prayer, and a worldview portion that provides a child's perspective on being a Muslim, Mormon, New Age spiritualist, Hindu, Buddhist, Communist, and other non-Christian beliefs.

Customize the schedule to your students' level; most chapters can be covered in two weeks, and this study may be used independently or with a parent. Ages 6-14, NIV, NLT, and NCV Scripture verses are used. 264 pages, hardcover.

This textbook focuses on:

  • God made me in His image and crowned me with glory
  • He has given me special gifts and a unique purpose in life
  • I can creatively express God's love
  • I am meant to think about beautiful and praiseworthy things, especially God and His Word
  • I must make decisions based on God's truth;
  • I can always know the wise thing to do;
  • I must cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in my life;
  • I am a beloved child of God whose true identity is found in Christ.

I Doing Here?) helps children understand what it means to be fearfully and

wonderfully made in the image of the Most High God. This study will enable

made me in His image and crowned me with glory; He has given me special gifts

and a unique purpose in life; I can creatively express God's love; I am meant to

think about beautiful and praiseworthy things, especially God and His Word; I

must make decisions based on God's truth; I can always know the wise thing to

do; I must cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in my life; I am a beloved child of God

whose true identity is found in Christ.

Endorsements

These books are great for parents to use with their children at home. At a time when Christian teachings are subject to increasing hostility, children must learn early what they believe, why they believe it, and how to boldly defend those beliefs.
Chuck Colson

The What We Believe series helps parents and their children ask the important questions-and answers those questions with uncompromising biblical truth.
Andy Stanley

A wonderful tool to help Christian parents keep family discipleship front and center. This is one curriculum in a class by itself.
Debra Bell
Author of The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling

A fantastic and much-needed resource for parents to help kids build a biblical worldview. I'm looking forward to taking my own kids through these valuable lessons.
Sean McDowell

Excellent, Bible-rich worldview curriculum.
WORLD Magazine

A great Bible curriculum for the entire family . . . one our family will use over and over again.

    I have yet to use this text with our daughter, Awana, or a homeschool class during the 2016-17 school year; however, I am excited to do so. The presentation of the material is beautiful. The style of writing flows easily and guides the reader through the concepts. The activities suggested and the potential of time spent with your child or other students have far-reaching potential for God's glory.

    For our family it's the content that draws us to this book. The Biblical worldview is rivaled by no other approach, particular church doctrine, or "philosophy" on which to live. We are excited about the impact this will have not only on our daughter, Awana clubbers, and homeschool students, but also on our family as a whole.

    Very In Depth Bible Study for Elementary Student

    I have to say this is one of the most in-depth Bible studies I have ever come across for elementary students. Due to the extensive content, my second grader gets a little lost if we do too much at one time. I have found the junior notebook to be a valuable addition to this book, and we use the lesson plans in the junior notebook, so that it is broken down into reasonable amounts of reading and work for my second grader. It's not for the faint of heart or for a quick Bible lesson! This study really dives into the Bible with great illustrated stories and examples for the kids to relate to. A little overwhelming for us, but I had to give it 5 stars for the amazing content and quality!

    I cannot stress enough how wonderful and how important this book is. The reason I homeschool my children is to give them a Christian worldview, and out of all the books I have used in nine years of teaching, this is by far my favorite. We can't wait to start our next in the series!

    Hands down this has been the best world view curriculum I've seen! My daughter is hands on and loves to "dig in" to this curriculum. We bought the CD to go along with he studies so she could follow along in a quiet place and reflect upon what is being taught. The stories are so interesting and she'll come and tell me all she's learned that day. Thank you for putting together such a great curriculum! P.S. when she's finished with this book is there another?

Author/Artist Review

Author: David Webb
Located in: Old Hickory, TN
Submitted: September 20, 2010

    Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a father of six children, all of whom have been taught at home. Though I currently work as a freelance writer and editor, and I have more than a dozen years' experience in Christian publishing at the management level.

    What was your motivation behind this project?  The project was born out of a crying need among homeschooling families for a quality curriculum to help them instruct elementary-level and junior high children in a biblical worldview as well as the beliefs of the Christian faith. Our publisher, Apologia, has partnered with Summit Ministries to produce this series of beautiful, full-color textbooks. Who Am I? (And What Am I Doing Here?) is the second book in the series.

    What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  John and I hope that these books will change the way children and their families look at the world each day. In a world of competing ideas, these books are designed to help children learn to discern the truth by using GodÂ’s Word as a lens through which to view the world around them -- to see everything the way God sees it. We pray that these books will bring the world, its Creator, and His amazing love into clearer focus for parents and their children, helping them to build a biblical self-image and an unshakable faith to last a lifetime.

    How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I have been tremendously blessed by the project, which has required me to approach God anew with a childlike faith. It's not easy to describe His wonders and beauty and mysteries using only a fifth-grade vocabulary, but we did our best. Now it's in the hands of the Holy Spirit to use as He sees fit.

    Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I hesitate to mention the names of friends and colleagues for fear of omitting someone. However, among contemporary authors, I am particularly fond of the works of Kathleen Norris, Mark Buchanan, and Jan Karon. Jack Hayford has been a huge influence on my life.

    Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Our publisher, Apologia, is well known for its customer support, and this product will prove no exception. Parents and teachers who will be using these books as curriculum will have free access to extensive teaching helps posted on the Apologia website.
