This workbook is "fair" in comparison...
This D'Nealian workbook has a good systematic approach but is light on practice. Overall I'm feeling it is not a good return on my investment given it was more costly than others on the market.

Colorful, careful teaching
The D'Nealian approach teaches italics, which aside from being a simple, beautiful manuscript, transitions smoothly into standard cursive. The manuscript mimics the strokes of cursive, so that by 2nd grade children learn to connect the strokes for cursive writing. The cursive in Getty-Dubay, by contrast, looks very different from standard cursive.
I ordered the kindergarten book for my 5yo who has already begun writing, but I'm glad I started here. Exercises are colorful and fun, beginning with practice starting at dots and following arrows along specific paths in a picture. The paths mimic strokes that will be part of writing a letter later, thus helping the child focus on correct form in an enjoyable way. A pleasant, carefully planned, sequential approach-- glad I bought this book, though it is a bit pricey.
