Trying to determine what direction to take in life is not always easy. As Christians, we pray and read scripture, seeking God’s guidance for the choices we make. But sometimes, trying to guess God’s will can feel a little bit like being a game show contestant—hoping we’ve picked the right showcase door. With so many to choose from, discerning which door of opportunity is the best can be difficult. Is there a way to really know which door to choose?Author Cheri Cowell believes that God offers us many doors to choose from as we transition through life. And she understands how confusing it can be to decide which door is best. She explains that the key to making confident decisions is to avoid trying to guess God’s ’will’ and focus instead on discerning God’s ’way’.In Direction, Cowell presents six questions to ask when it comes to decision-making. She examines each question and shares examples of how others—from Bible times to present day—used these questions to find God’s way in the story of their lives. Through observation and exploration, Cowell shows how determining your own answers to these important questions will guide you in the discernment process. From career options to medical decisions to relationship questions, you’ll learn how to know for sure what door to choose.Direction includes reflection questions for individual or group study. It will provide you withThe wisdom to make confident decisions, the understanding to enrich your prayer life, the eagerness to know God better, andthe willingness to take more risks in life’s most important decisions.

Many times, its easy to discern a good choice from a bad one. But when neither option is bad or wrong, how does one know which path to choose? While most of us would prefer the proverbial handwriting on the wall to show us the way, that kind of unmistakable message from God is rare. But according to Cowells book, thats OK. We dont need it. In fact, instead of trying to guess what Gods will is, she writes, we should instead focus on discerning His way. When we know Gods way, well be better able to choose our own. Direction is not a Ouija board which will magically point you to your next move. It equips the reader with the right questions, the right tools to evaluate the possibilities on his or her own. Cowell also wisely devotes a chapter to Obstacles to Hearing from God. Drawing on personal experiences, real-life stories from others, the Word of God and the wisdom of classic theologians, Cowell explores decision-making at a fundamental level. I found her insights to be thoroughly based in Scripture and very balanced.Cowell adds even more value to her already solid book by including several helpful appendices and group study questions for each chapter, making this well-suited for small group or individual use, and appropriate for every stage of life.

If youve ever felt that you made the decision that was Gods Will, and then your life fell apart, you need to read this book. Using her own journey through disappointing jobs, and examples of others who felt they missed Gods will, Cheri offers a view of Gods will that takes away the guilt and wondering. It challenges the stereotype of Gods will being a rigid plan, and replaces it with a view of His loving sovereignty. Cheris six-step discernment process, along with her emphasis on spiritual disciplines (summarized in appendices) make this a useful book for personal and group study.

This was a very interesting book on how have discernment in making decisions for your life. It was different than most books on God's will and the process the author reveals is very thought provoking and it made a lot of sense to me. I have some decision coming up and while I'm not ready to make those decisions yet, this book is helping me with the process. I'm going to keep this one in my library so I can refresh memory as more important life choices come my way! I highly recommend it.

This is one of, if not, the best inspirational book I have ever read, it puts into perspective, how God intends for us to commune with him. How he desires for us to return to the creatures he created us to be, before the fall of Adam and Eve. I have had the influence of the Nazarene Doctrine, in my life since birth, and never have I heard the areas covered in this book, described so easy to understand. If you read this and apply any of it to your own life, you will certainly become closer to being one with Him.
