I got this book for my husband, and right away he started saying, Let me look that one up in "the book" and he is real happy with the information he is able to get from the pocket book.

This book gives a good overview of a number of denominations in North America. Supposedly, these are "Christian groups." Unfortunately, they identify a number of groups, such as Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Scientists and others as merely "Non-Orthodox" in the "Index" and include them in the "Dictionary" with little or no warning whatsoever. Yet, as in the case of the Mormons, the book admits "that most, if not all, other North American denominations do not recognize the LDS as a Christian church."I see this as failing to take a stand for truth. Without proper warnings, new Christians, the unwary and others may fail to discern between "Christian groups" and what most Christians define as cults.

Excellent and handy reference book for anyone interested in different denominations. The book is detailed enough to give you a general understanding of the major denominations in North America, but not so detailed that you lose focus. The only aspect that kept it from getting a full 5-star rating was the Table of Contents. The book lacks a good Table of Contents. It has an index which suffices. But, some of the denominations are hard to find the way the book is setup. Overall, it is a very good book for church leaders and laity.

Good for a historical overview of the different denominations but not much else. I was expecting a lot more information on specific beliefs and practices but for the price its still a good buy.
