I have been a large fan of many of Melody Carlson's books for many years. About the time that I bought Meant to Be and the other Kim books, my own mom was in the process of being diagnosed with what we thought was ovarian cancer (it turned out to be a very very rare cancer that starts in the appendix and spreads to the ovaries first but it functions in the same way). I thought that I might be able to glean a little knowledge of the coming months. Well, the truth is that there is very little described about the ovarian cancer. Having lived first hand the nightmare, it would have been nice if she'd been more honest about what really happens. Even though Kim's mom dies, there is so little told about what really happens, and that bothers me a little. But it was very down to earth, honest, with believable characters and comforting messages. I just wish that it had truly shown the devastating nature of ovarian cancer.
