VicsMediaRoomIrvine, CAAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5A Masquerade Identity, Forgiveness & RomanceOctober 23, 2015VicsMediaRoomIrvine, CAAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Jennifer AlLee and Lisa Karon Richardson in their new book, Diamond in the Rough Book One in the Charm & Deceit series published by Whitaker House brings us into the life of Grant Diamond.
From the back cover: A tale of a man masquerading as a missionary, a beguiling woman who buys his bluff, and the detective who just might make him lay all his cards on the table.
Grant Diamond is a professional gambler on the run from his past. When he comes across a wagon wreck outside of Eureka, California, the chance to escape his pursuers is too good a gamble to pass up, and he assumes the identity of the dead wagon driver. His plan takes an unexpected turn when lumber heiress Lily Rose mistakes him for the missionary she had asked to come work with the Wiyot Indians. Seeing Eureka as a promising place to lay low, Grant plays along. Before he knows it, hes bluffing his way through sermons and building an Indian school. But with a Pinkerton on his trail and a local rancher rousing fresh hatred against the Indians, Grant fears the new life hes built may soon crumple like a house of cards.
Jennifer AlLee and Lisa Karon Richardson work very well together and they really know how to tell a story and all I can say is well done! Grant is a very interesting person who has a Pinkerton agent after him for a crime he did not commit and is trying to keep a low profile for a while. That plan fails miserably as everyone believes he is who he is impersonating. And that leads to some really fun moments. It really is a neat moment when everyone comes together to build. The ladies have given us a wonderful story that shows us repentance and forgiveness played out nicely. And did I mention it is a romance? Diamond in the Rough is also just plain fun and interesting as well. Dont start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.

ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful!!!May 29, 2013ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Diamond in the Rough is an excellent compilation of two great authors! From the very first I knew I was going to love Lily as a character and the others soon also. From her personality to her faith she is by far one o my all time favorite characters. She's the type of character that if real flesh and blood you'd want to be her friend. Or at least I would! LOL! A great plot as well as sub plot and a wonderful mystery fill the pages. Humor from the start as well as great intrigue. The lessons of forgiveness and that no one is a lost cause, but they must choose to turn from their sins and change. I loved learning about a tribe that I had never heard about before and also how certain characters come around before the end. Lisa and Jennifer keep the pace; not allowing the story to move too quickly but having no lulls in between scenes. I can't wait for more, and I highly recommend you read Diamond in the Rough!!! :)
Song: "Just as I am" by Johnny Cash, "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash, and "Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash
Thank you very much to Cathy who helped me with the selection of these songs! :) You can't go wrong with Johnny Cash songs! :)
MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Life's A GambleMay 24, 2013MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This story is set in Eureka CA in 1861, just prior to the start of the Civil War. Grant Diamond is on the run from the past and has assumed a dead man's identity. Of all the people to take their name, he has become a Reverend...Rev Crew from Harvard's Divinity School.
There are some very serious issues tackled here, issues of hate. Hate so strong people are willing to kill. Of Course, where do we find this heathen? In Church!
Maybe God will reach their hearts? One of these evil men wants to marry Heiress Lily Rose! Lily is quite the character, think I would have been in complete chuckles watching her antics in her hoop skirts. Can't you just picture her at the General Store...can just see those displays tumbling down. Later she is rolling down a hill, she does get injured, but what a spectacle!
Can't you just picture a gambler, playing a Preacher, and then asked to give the sermon? Something has to give! As I said there are a lot of chuckles, and then some ultra serious moments. The chapters are short, which I like, and it becomes a very fast read. Smell the Ocean and stay awhile.
