Series: Texas Fortunes
Marcia Gruver’s southern roots lend touches of humor and threads of faith to her writing. Look for both in her Texas Fortunes and Backwoods Brides series. When she’s not perched behind a keyboard, you’ll find her clutching a game system controller or riding shotgun on long drives in the Texas Hill Country. Lifelong Texans, Marcia and her husband Lee have five children. Collectively, this motley crew has graced them with a dozen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter—so far.
Smartly interlaced with biblical wisdom and a touching sense of humor, Gruvers storytelling makes Diamond Duo a page-turner and, while the dialogue slows the pleasing pace at times, readers will be enchanted by the spirit of each character. Also interwoven within the main conflicts are themes of race, biblical and unbiblical marriage, honoring ones parents, and the importance of community.
The sweethearts and main characters of the book, assertive Bertha Biddie and genteel Thaddeus Thad Bloom, endure disappointment and heartbreak as the desires to marry, help Annie, and follow Gods will collide. Tying these conflicts throughout the book is the principle of trust. Berthas father often reminds her to let God handle the details, and Thad often references the Psalms and other Scripture in his trials.
I was truly inspired by the genuine humanity inherent in Gruvers main characters. The smaller, heart-warming lessons of friendship tucked away in the plot are sure to delight the readers who love a good story. Diamond Duo will please romance and historical fiction readers alike and is certainly worthy of its upcoming sequel. -- Holly Savage, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
