Between sports practice, music lessons, and homework, we can feel like our days pass by without ever really talking with each other about the most important matters of life and faith. This family devotional by popular author and mom Nancy Guthrie serves up a year's worth of daily truths from God's Word to chew on and apply to real life. Going beyond Bible stories, your whole family will enjoy discussing biblical words and themes at a level kids from 5 to 95 will understand and relate to.
Each day's devotion includes:
- several scriptures on the day's theme to read together
- a brief devotion that gets everyone thinking and talking
- discussion starter questions to engage even the youngest and most reluctant participants

She offered many of the lessons she learned from this sorrowful experience in her books, Holding On to Hope: A Pathway of Suffering to the Heart of God and The One Year Book of Hope which helped thousands of people pursue God in the midst of their suffering. A third book, Hoping for Something Better: Refusing to Settle for Life as Usual, provides readers and small groups with a 10-week journey through the book of Hebrews and includes study questions for a weekly discussion.
In addition to her international teaching ministry, Nancy has worked in the Christian publishing industry for over twenty years as a publicist and special project editor. She, her husband, David, and son, Matt, make their home in Nashville, Tennessee, where they attend Christ Presbyterian Church (Presbyterian Church in America).

KabtpAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Good but needs to be age appropriate for familiesApril 25, 2012KabtpAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4We have a wide range in the ages of our chidren, 17, 10 and 6. This book is very good for our sons 17 and 10 but not so age appropriate for our 6 year old as the reviews had suggested.
It's a wonderful book, we love it and we will be using it but I am now looking for one that will fit us all and I do believe there is one out there. I'm able to adjust some of our readings to fit us all but this one, over all, was for older ages and therefore was harder to simplify for our youngest son.
KarenAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Real, solid, biblicalApril 23, 2011KarenAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I was looking for a devotional book that expounded/explained the bible, and did not have cutesy moral stories. This is it! 365 one-page, easy to understand readings, set out in a clear format. Read the scriptures first (2 or 3 verses each day,) then the devotional (2 or 3 short paragraphs in plain english.) Discussion questions follow up with things to think about. I have 4 kids aged 8 - 15 and, because it's bible-based, not cute-story-with-a-moral based, it applies to us all. No dumbing down, but also not hard to understand. Excellent book, not just for families, but for individuals as well.
