A culture of unbelief is spreading throughout society-from thehearts and minds of individuals into the media, the courtrooms, theclassrooms, and beyond. Every Christian must be prepared if we areto struggle effectively with the anti-Christian worldviews that areeroding the foundations of our society.
The authors of this book put several of these worldviews upagainst Christianity, and the contrasts are clear: cynicism andhopelessness vs. meaning and purpose; confusion vs. truth; deathvs. life. They define and defend a Christian world-and-life viewand show how to let God guide us as we live and work in anincreasingly humanistic world.
Many believers today practice an abbreviated form ofChristianity. They know their faith applies to their spirituallives and to their relationships with others, but they don'trealize that the Bible contains commands that equip them to liveout their faith in all of life. They may have a "Christian life"view, but they lack a Christian world-and-life view.
In Lord of All, D. James Kennedy and Jerry Newcombedefine this Christian world-and-life view by considering the sixmain spheres of influence that Christians should be working tostrengthen, from the global and national levels down to the churchand the family. Those with anti-Christian worldviews are workinghard to push God out of these spheres, and as Christians we arecalled to reclaim them for Christ.
With an unflinching commitment to God's truth, the authors takeus through each of these spheres of influence and give us anoverview of what has gone wrong and why a biblically informedworld-and-life view is essential. They provide us with the toolsand guidance we need to begin integrating our faith with everyaspect of life.
Throughout the book we are reminded of the truth that God issovereign not just over spiritual things, but over all of life. Heis Lord of all.
Matthew Cochrane5 Stars Out Of 5September 22, 2006Matthew CochraneThe book is well written and, even better, well organized. The text is divided into six different sections of four chapters, each detailing a different sphere in our lives that Christ needs to reign over. As the back cover states, In Lord of All, D. James Kennedy and Jerry Newcombe define this Christian world-and-life view by considering the six main spheres of influence that Christians should be working to strengthen, from the global and national levels down to the church and family. The six spheres the book refers to are the world, humanity, nation, education, church and family. In each section the authors compare the commonly held humanist, or secular, view to the Biblical perspective. It carefully details the consequences of each conviction and the reasoning that led to the worlds beliefs. The authors are careful to back up their arguments using experts from the respective fields and Scripture. Whats more, they also successfully explain how each of these spheres are intricately connected and how it is impossible to be a well-rounded Christian without letting the Lord reign in each of these areas. Hence, this book not only provides the reader with the information needed to engage in our countrys fiercely contested cultural wars (i.e. abortion, homosexuality, etc.), it also informs the reader why it is so vitally essential to our Christian walk that we do so. This is a message that the church needs to hear more. Unfortunately, there is a growing movement within the church that believes Christians should ignore society and just stick to their own affairs. This book more than adequately explains why Christians are commanded to do otherwise. I loved this book. It was deeply insightful and practical. I only hope that more Christians read this to become informed on the topics facing our culture today.
