Product DescriptionDeuteronomy is a book 'on the boundary': it addresses the possibilities of new life 'beyond the Jordan' as dependent on Israel's keeping of the law and acknowledgement of Yahweh's supremacy. In Deuteronomy [TOTC], Edward Woods expounds the all-encompassing vision of the book of Deuteronomy for the people of Israel. He shows how the Israelites were exhorted to make its words the interpreter of their life story within the land and within God's grand story of redemption.
About the Tyndale Old Testament Commentary [TOTC] series The Tyndale Old Testament Commentary [TOTC] series is designed to help the reader of the Bible understand what the text says, and also what it means. The Introduction to each book gives a concise but thorough treatment of its authorship, date, original purpose, and setting. Following a structural Analysis, the Commentary takes the book section-by-section, drawing out its main themes, while also commenting on individual verses and problems of interpretation. Additional Notes provide fuller discussion of particular difficulties. The commentary in these volumes is structured under three headings: 1) Context; 2) Comment; 3) Meaning. Ultimately, the goal of these commentaries is to make the meaning of the Bible as plain and straightforward as could reasonably be expected. Key Points:
