I don't give five star reviews to books unless they REALLY deserve it, and this one does. Not only is it practical, but it points you to the ultimate source of our strength, Jesus. Forget all the pop psychology and affirmation junk you've read about depression--this book delivers! We waste a lot of money in our lives, on rotten movies, bad food, and promises that don't fulfill. This book is a solid investment in your future happiness, and I stone guarantee you will not regret buying and reading it.

If your even leaning on the edge of buying this book becuase you, or someone you know is suffering from depression... BUY IT! I've been struggling with depression and have been going through this book with a close friend as a guide. This book doesn't tell you: "oh, everything will be alright, just keep going," it challenges, provokes, and shows love. It gives you both a scientific and Christian perspective. It's where I turn when I can't flip another page in the Bible, or can't even look at the Bible (people in deep depression will understand this). Take the step, you WON'T regret it. Also - the two beginning chapters of the book do wonders in explaining depression to those who can't grasp it / don't understand it, or if you can't place what you're feeling into words and need to get it out.

Couldn't agree more with the above reviews. Having suffered with depression for most of my adult life, it is the best I've read on the topic. Welch balances sound, practical help based on Scripture and genuine compassion. It's true that, in order to address a personal issue, you must first be able to "identify your enemy." Welch helps us identify that enemy.

This book is a must read for anyone, or has a loved one who, suffers with depression. The best part of this book is it's constant reference to helpful scripture. This is the first book I've read that's actually helped.

This is the one book that I read and reread. I have severe depression and I pick this book up all the time just to get me through the day. He continues to direct me to Christ and that is the only book worth reading. Self help books don't work without God. I give this book my highest recommendation.. I hope he writes more for those of us that battle these disorders.

An excellent book-it is the best writing I have read on depression from a Christian perspective.

This book tops the list of all the books I have read on the topic of depression. What I liked about the book was that it offers real, biblically grounded hope for those who struggle with depression. It is chocked full of practical information and is devoid of the "feel better tips" typically found in books on this topic. It is the real deal - not just meaningless fluff. A must read for family and friends as well.
