With his always-refreshing, authentic Southern style, Joe Hilley continues spinning legal thrillers with threads that are spiritually engaging, socially relevant, and downright entertaining. The Deposition is another memorable pearl in the strand of Mike Connolly mysteries.

First, I have to say that I love this series. Second, it pained me to give this a 2.5 rating as this book wasn't what I thought was by the description. I thought by the description that all parties involved with Mike was going to give their thoughts about him what they thought about him. But instead it was one long deposition with Father Scott about several other people & in the background Mike. You don't know if Mike ever gets back with his ex-wife, you don't know if his relationship with his daughter is fixed, etc. I thought this book was a wonderful idea but poorly portrayed. I was very disappointed in this book.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a former criminal defense attorney. Eight or nine years ago, I left the practice of law to write full time.
What was your motivation behind this project? In The Deposition, I set out to write a book that told several stories at once. Some of those stories are on the page. Some of them are off the page. This is a very subtle book. What happens between the chapters is almost more important than what you read in the chapters. You can't read this book while driving down the highway. You have to pay attention.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope people will read this book and find the courage to stand up for what they believe, even when powerful forces exert great influence on them to give in.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This book was a great challenge to me as a writer. And a little risky.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Two writers influenced me. Mark Twain, for his ability to tell a story. And Ernest Hemingway, for his sparse prose.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Keep reading. There's more to come.
