What an eye opener! I didn't realize that some of the things I was living for - my family, my spouse, even the achievements in my day could morph into an idol(s) in my life. This book is a great way to see just where my heart is and what I am serving - God or something else. A must read for those serious about growing in their christian maturity and relationship with God.
gods at war: Defeating the Idols That Battle for Your Heart
January 16, 2015
An excellent book that looks at the different gods competing for our hearts and minds. It's easy to read and yet challenging us to grow and have a better relationship with God. It really is a convicting book when it comes to all the wordly things taking up a lot of our time and room in our hearts.
Pastor Idleman dives right into the topic in Chapter 1 and just makes it more and more relevant as the chapters go on. He doesn't slowly build to a single point, but throughout writes in a practical way about where we allow competition for God in our lives. He writes with insights of a much older man. Our group bought the Combat Journal and the DVD and is really taking the teaching to heart.
This book will touch your mind, heart, and soul. It made me do an honest evaluation or examination of my life in the area of priorities. Recommend using it as a small group study or reference to expand on a sermon message. I was convicted in the Temple of Pleasure, The God of Entertainment, and The God of Achievement.
