Humor, suspense and love all in one book
Loved this book! The humor had me laughing out loud but she also had suspense and tense situations. A good mix all around. There is a previous book, Cowboy Christmas that I would recommend reading first if you enjoy books that go together.
Shannon Dysart, a city born rich girl, is out to prove her dad was not crazy. Her rich mother had married a scholar. He spent his days searching for treasures in the US as he was sure that there was lost history here as well as other countries. As he was dying in Shannon's arms he told her clues of where he had been and what he found. She spent two years going over his maps and then set out to find the Cities of Gold. Ends up the people with her were after more then what she paid them for.
Gabe Lasley hears gunshots and screams. When he gets to an odd canyon with rooms in the walls he finds a woman way up high. How she got there he has no clue but promises her he will help her.
Once she he gets her down the adventure begins.
They have to avoid being married by the fire and brimstone preacher. Her ex-employees have come back to retrieve the correct maps from her, her almost fiance has come from St. Louis to search for her and mostly go escape their mother's who liked to run their lives and everyone elses, Gabe's brother has come to search for him and Abe's young sister in law has come to claim Gabe as her husband (unbeknownst to Gabe).
They fight the Arizona heat and the beauty and danger of the Grand Canyon. Then when it comes to life and death Shannon also has to fight the pull of treasure.

Looking for The City of Gold ?
Review: Deep Trouble - Mary Connealy - May 2011
Have you ever wanted something so bad , that no matter what anyone else says , you will be as stubborn as a mule to find it and do it your way ? For Shannon Dysart , she believed in her father and when everyone else thought he was delusional , she believed in him with all her heart. In a way, Deep Trouble by Mary Connealy reminded me alot of the movie National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage and Fool's Gold starring Kate Hudson. As in National Treasure, nobody believed Nicholas Cage's character's grandfather about the treasure except for him and in Fool's Gold, it was said that the treasure was left by the Spanish. In Deep Trouble , we hear the story behind the City of Gold starting in the year 1150 in Madrid, Spain and working it's way to America. On the expedition, Shannon is caught up into trouble and left to die and her saviour is in the form of Gabe . As the story goes along we see the tension between the two as Gabe is uncomfortable about travelling with an unmarried woman and Shannon is desperate to resume her journey and put a sparkle on her father's name. As usual with most Christian fiction, we read as the passion intensifies between Gabe and Shannon and we read the decision on whether Shannon and Gabe tie the knot or will Shannon return to a Childhood Sweetheart back in her hometown, once she is found to be safe and sound.
