Of course, her cat, Octavia, gets in the act at home, and Mitch takes in Clancy, a big dog whose owner died. This books big case deals with the owners of an auto restoration business and an attempted robbery gone wrong. Will Cate be able to sort it out and help set things right or will her private investigation endanger her own life? The rollicking adventures make for a fun and sometimes funny read.
MardellSpokane WAAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Cate Kincaid...Assistant Private Investigator!July 27, 2014MardellSpokane WAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleDeath Takes a Ride is the first book I read by Lorena McCourtney and it won't be the last. I enjoyed meeting Cate and the cast of misfits in this fun mystery filled with quirks, love and the surprise finale. I changed my mind a few time on who the real killer was in the story and that is always a good thing for the mystery reader.
Cate Kincaid, heroine and Assistant P.I. does a good turn for Shirley, an employee at H&B Motors whom she never met before by volunteering to pick her up and drive her to the Fit and Fabulous class at her church. As she meets Shirley and gets ready to leave H&B, Shirley's bosses call her into the office to witness a signature. What follows is the sound of a gunshot and then another, and the beginnings of a trail of suspects between Eugene and Salem Oregon.
Mitch Berenski, Cate's boyfriend would be happy if she chose a new career but gives her help and support as needed...such as a night in a biker bar to meet a key witness for the crime. Fists, purses and lots of words later, Mitch has a stiff body and a black eye. Mitch is an all around great guy that Cate would love to keep in her life. One of the co-owners of H&B, Kane, also a victim in the shooting has an over sized dog named Clancy, who goes to stay with Mitch. Mitch didn't mind as long as it was for one night only....but you can guess how that ends up.
I enjoyed this book for a vacation treat and in the spirit of travel, ride along with this book and see how many different bikes you can find. A special thank you for the opportunity to read a review copy of the e-book from Revell.

Gunshots blast in the car parts center where Cates friend works.
One man is dead; another critically wounded. The dead man allegedly robbed the place, and the wounded man was one of the owners of the car parts store that specialized in auto and motorcycle restoration.
Cate only wanted to help a friend by taking her to a Fit and Fabulous meeting.
As usual, Cates pampered deaf cat is among the books characters. Theres also a big affectionate dog and Mitch. Mitch is the one who will help Cate get out of a tight spot at the ring a cell phone.
Cate, an assistant private investigator, is working on her PI license, but murder investigations are out of her league. Yet with her talent for finding trouble and a curiosity not satisfied until a case is solved, the reader know shell be right in the middle of it and shell be lucky to escape with her life.
But suspense isnt the only great attribute of Lorena McCourtneys books. What make them so fun to read is the humorous twists, turns and hilarious thinking of her characters.
Death Takes a Ride is another great book by this New York Times bestselling author.
Note: The publisher supplied a review copy of this book, that in no way influenced my opinion.
LifeofLiteratureGender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Light, Fast-Paced MysteryJuly 22, 2014LifeofLiteratureGender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This fast-paced, light mystery novel is bursting with adventure from page one. Death Takes a Ride is written in simple language that allows the reader to speed through the pages and discover the surprising ending. The romance is not complex but adds a nice flair to the crime and murder that accompanies Cate's life. Although the story is not very deep, the author does a wonderful job of keeping the reader guessing as to the truth behind each event in the plot. While this novel can stand alone, it serves as a nice addition to an exciting series. This book is recommended for lovers of contemporary mystery.
I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
RosieAge: Under 18Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5July 22, 2014RosieAge: Under 18Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Another great addition to the Cate Kinkaid Files!!
After loving the previous books spent with Cate, Mitch, and Octavia, I couldn't help myself when the opportunity arose to review Death Takes a Ride. Once again, Ms. McCourtney exceeds expectations as she rises above the common cliches associated with murder-mysteries. Nothing comes easily to Cate. Some might shrug at this, but this truly is what makes this series, particularly Cate, stand out over the ones where the main character always has that convenient friend.
Cate grows a little bit more in each book and I'm always excited to spend some time with the tomato-red head. Her quirks and her cat, Octavia really grow on you. Cate comes through so clearly that, though the book is written in third person, there were times I had to remind myself it wasn't first person! I really hope this isn't the last we see of Cate and Mitch (especially after that ending!!), because I would love to read another book.
When I sit down to read a mystery, my biggest concern is whether or not I'll be surprised with the ending. This time, I was not surprised but that didn't detract at all from the experience for me. Instead, I felt more of a "I knew it!" avalanche of excitement rather than a "Drat. I was right." disappointment. As I stated earlier in the review, I hope there's another book!!
I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy a more relaxed mystery novel over the common suspense/thriller. Things to know: a character is killed by being impaled in the head. I think readers should be at least fifteen or sixteen before diving into this novel.
I received this book from Revell in return for an honest review of my opinions, which I have done. Thanks!!
