Lucanus grew up in the household of his stepfather, the Roman governor of Antioch. He studied medicine in Alexandria and became one of the greatest physicians of the ancient world, traveling far and wide through the Mediterranean region healing the sick.
When Lucanus heard of the life and death of Jesus, he saw in Him the God he was seeking. To learn all he could about Jesus, whom he had never seen, Lucanus visited all the places where Jesus had been, questioning everyone who had known Him or heard Him preach, including his mother, Mary. When he had gathered all the information possible, he wrote what we now know as the Gospel according to St. Luke.

It has already become a book I am recommending to friends, as it was recommended to me. I love the mixture of history and the descriptions of the "world" and culture of the time. While I know that it's a novel, Taylor Caldwell spent 46 years writing it after reading (with her husband) 1,000 books on St. Luke. I trust that she has incorporated as much fact as possible. Reading this was on the heals of a Bible study "Jesus The One and Only" where we studied the book of Luke and much of the other Gospels. I've enjoyed these back to back and would recommend this for anyone who likes a book with a lot of information. I'm still in his younger years before Christ's resurrection, but anxious to see where this book takes me.

He was a physician, author of the Gospel of Luke and The Book of Acts, and a man of which little would be known without authors like Taylor Caldwell.
