Have questions about eBooks? Check out our eBook FAQs. Product DescriptionDisgraced dime novelist Kate Tenney fled the city that banned her latest novel for the emptiness of the desert. Answering an ad to be "heiress" to a vast cattle ranch in the Arizona Territory, Kate hopes ranching turns out to be as romantic as she portrayed it in her novels. But what awaits her is a life harder than the one she just left. There is no room for mistakes on a working cattle ranch, and Kate is ill-prepared for her new life. She quickly learns that dawn comes early. But she is tenacious.
Having been abandoned by a string of men, Kate has no intention of ever marrying. But she didn't expect to meet Luke Adams, either. Luke awakens feelings inside Kate she doesn't recognize, and his steady presence is a constant distraction. She has only written about love in the past, never known it herself. But her feelings for Luke stand in the way of all she has to gain if she is chosen as the heir. Perhaps God brought Kate to the barrenness of the desert to give new life to her jaded heart. Eleanor Walker Disgraced dime novelist Kate Tenney fled the city that banned her latest book for a fresh start at a cattle ranch in the Arizona Territory. She hopes ranching turns out to be as romantic as she portrayed it in her novels. But what awaits her is a much harder life. There is no room for mistakes on a working cattle ranch in 1895, and Kate is ill-prepared for her new life. She quickly learns that dawn comes early . . . every day. But she is tenacious. Having been abandoned by a string of men, Kate has no intention of ever marrying. But she didnt expect to meet Luke Adams either. Publisher's WeeklyBrownley (A Lady Like Sarah) entertains western romance fans in this formulaic but sprightly beginning to the Brides of Last Chance ranch series. Kate Tenney takes her chances when she answers an ad seeking a woman to inherit a cattle ranch in Arizona Territory in 1895. Shes escaping Boston, where her latest dime novel has been banned for immoral content. Almost as soon as she steps off the train in Cactus Patch, she is accosted by resident outlaw Cactus Joe and just as promptly rescued by blacksmith Luke Adams. The sparks that fly arent from Lukes forge, but Kates college education and Lukes frontier style make an obvious mismatch. More important but less obvious is Kates mistrust of men, starting with the father who abandoned her. And easterner Kate has many hard lessons to learn about the harsh land and the duties of ranching if she is to win the trust, and estate, of heirless ranch owner Eleanor Walker. Brownleys narrative arc of growth and transformation is unsurprising. Its not a dime novel, but just like that genre will find readers interested in light diversion.
