This book has personal meaning to me, as my 20 year-old daughter was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) two years ago. Perhaps the author is correct in that his story can serve as motivation and encouragement for others who have been affected in some way by this horrible disease.

The book itself is a very easy read, and tells the story of Dave Lyons journey from being crippled by MS at age 47, which motivated him to return to competitive bodybuilding, in spite of the tremendous odds facing him. Mr. Lyons is somewhat transparent regarding his personal life during the book, and it is telling that he includes his divorce and remarriage in the story.

The book itself is filled with countless scripture references, as Mr. Lyons seemingly uses his faith to motivate and will him forward in his challenges and goals. While every person's life story is different, it is how we, as people, respond to adversity that reveals something about our character. Mr. Lyons admits to not backing down from any challenges, and he is not one to quit on anyone or anything.

The book is littered with references to many famous people who have crossed the author's path, and I was personally impressed with how seemingly easy it came to the author in getting others to assist him along the way. Many folks who might seem unreachable to the common folk are mentioned in this book as someone who did something to help Mr. Lyons along the way, most specifically in helping him build his entertainment company. I guess for me personally I have a hard time understanding how this works, because I am not the "Type A" personality that Mr. Lyons apparently is. I'm certainly not begrudging his success or the people in his circle of influence, but it just seems hard to believe so many people so willingly helped Mr. Lyons along the way. I guess if I ever meet Mr. Lyons then I can see first hand what sort of personality he brings to the table and how influential he is from a face to face basis.

But I digress. I read this book in about four hours, and as I mentioned above, is a very easy read. Anyone that needs some encouragement, a pep talk, or just needs to find something positive to point to, then pick up this book and dive right in.
