Cheryl-Lee Raine5 Stars Out Of 5July 30, 2010Cheryl-Lee RaineAn amazing novel regarding King David!! I loved every minute I spent in this book and would highly recommend it to all who are interested in biblical fiction. King David is one biblical character that I'm fascinated by! I read bits of this in conjunction with my Bible, which made me even more interesting. A wonderful and compelling read!!
Louis5 Stars Out Of 5July 18, 2009LouisDavid: The Warrior King took me back thousands of years to the time of King David, Saul and Jonathan. I especially savored the descriptions of the culture of ancient Israel and how the author brought to life the history of the Bible with realistic dialogue and skillful characterization. From the first page this Historical novel of King David kept me glued and I finished reading the book on a plane from Sydney. I keep wondering what happens to Michal? She's still on my mind I can;t wait for the other books in the series, I want to pick up the story from where it ended! Well done, David J. Ferreira!

Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a South African author, aged 26, living in Gauteng. I see my writing as my ministry, and as many writers do, I live to write. For the past year, I've been working on a non-profit organization, to teach children to read, and to give support and exposure to authors.
What was your motivation behind this project? I've been fascinated by history my whole life! I wanted to write an historical novel that would make readers identify with biblical characters, and thus strengthen their personal relationship with God. Yes, I might have been over-ambitious to take on such a legendary figure as King David, with all of his virtues and flaws, but I felt the Holy Spirit led me to write the book, and I pray that I did my job well enough.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that readers will understand that David suffered through numerous trials and tribulations, yet he never turned his back on God! He simply loved Him too much... even if he didnt understand even if he was just so tired. During the midst of the hurricane, he clung to the Father with all of his strength, and God renewed David, carried him through the difficult times, and gave him ways to escape persecution, danger and death. Also, David was a man of flesh and bone, and sin. He made mistakes, big ones, but he was quick to repent and that, I believe, made him Gods beloved. In the end, it all worked out for good! (Romans 8:28) God was building him up to be the great man that he finally became!
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? The one thing I realized was that I knew so very little about King David. I read the story many times as I grew up, yet when I studied the texts, and delved into books and theses, I discovered so much about ancient Israel, their cultures, laws and about David, as a cherished son of God, a man, a king, a husband and a father. His relationship with God changed my life!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Well, when it comes to historical fiction, definitely Conn Iggulden the man is a genius! I drew a lot from his writing style, and my vocabulary probably doubled since Ive read his books. But on a Christian level, I find inspiration from various sources. The major one of course is my Bible, where I spend many hours highlighting and underlining text, and making notes to pray on. I then took to the internet to research all my questions, I spoke to reverends and people at my church, and I read several other books. A quick question - Have you ever read Dear and Glorious Physician? Its a heavy read, but one of my favorite Biblical novels of all time!
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Remember - God loves you! Every cell in your body is vibrating with God's Love and Powerful Energy! You are fearfully and wonderfully made! (Psalm 139:14) And just like David ben Jesse, we have to stand in faith during the difficult times, and never forget His Love.
