Tell us a little about yourself. I have a journalism degree from the University of Missouri (1957)and am a former U. S. Navy officer. I have five grown children and five grandchildren. I'm winding down a career in marketing, public relations, advertising and sales promotion, mostly in the commercial real estate industry, with the intention of devoting all my time and engery to reading, researching interesting topics, and writing book reviews, essays, and perhaps, to some creative writing, all from a Christian perspective.
What was your motivation behind this project? Too many people don't understand that there truly is a civil war (of ideas and ideals) going on in this country, an undeclared war, a war that will determine what kind of country we will be in the near future. The battle lines are, of course, drawn between liberal and conservative beliefs and points of view. That much people seem to at least vaguely understand, but most people cannot articulate why they believe what they believe. Liberals are trying to marginalize Christianity while conservatives are trying to hold the line on traditional Judeo- Christian morality and values. With a few exceptions, liberals control the news media, the entertainment industry, and academia which gives them a huge advantage. Rank and file onservatives need to be better informed so they can become more involved in this vitally important battle. I believe the Bible must be restored to its rightful place of honor and authority in our society and I intend to be a part of the process.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I want to help people better understand culture war issues so they can more easily recognize and effectively react to the danger radical secularization of America poses for themselves, their children, and their grandchildren. People need to fully understand the issues in order to make informed decisions, especially when it's time to vote. Also, as people become better informed, they become better able to take the offensive rather than constantly being on the defensive. Christians need to get over the idea that politics and religion don't mix; they have to understand that turning over governance of the country to pagans is suicidal. They need to understand that voting, as an informed voter, is a duty to God.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? One of my sources of inspiration and a favorite author/speaker is D. James Kennedy. I also respect and enjoy the work of George Will and many other conservative writers, preachers and speakers.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I read and review books on culture war issues which I am thinking about anthologizing and submitting to a Christian publisher. Reviewing books of this kind is a way of making a larger public aware of their existence and, hopefully, increasing the distribution of such books. Many people need help in understanding and verbalizing their own feelings about issues. They feel isolated and unsure about the legitimacy of their own feelings. "The New Tolerance" by Josh McDowell is a good example of a book people need to know about. Most people intrinsically know there's something wrong with the "tolerance" campaign by liberals but feel insecure about speaking their minds. McDjowell's book effectively exposes the tactics of the left and explains how to respond. People need help and reinforcement in their beliefs but don't know where to find it. Book reviews are good vehicles for quickly imparting information to people who don't want to invest the time and effort it takes to read an entire book. I believe a collection of book reviews regarding culture war issues is saleable and it's a project I intend to complete.
